Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Two Irish funeral things

Since my father-in-law died on Sunday, I keep getting these things: 


What the difference between an Irish wedding and an Irish funeral? One less drunk at the funeral.


Irish cop lies dying, and says "If you don't sing Danny Boy, I'll get out of my coffin and walk out of my funeral."

The one thing you can 99% of the time (& over 90% of the time it's true.) expect someone to say at an Irish Wake; He had a good run!

Overheard at a wake in an Irish village:

"Ah, it's a grand day for him, to be sure. Just look at him lyin' there. I tell you there's no finer dead man in Ireland today."

My first and only exposure to an Irish wake came in 9th grade in the midst of the folk song craze: Finnegan's Wake. Tommy Makem and the Clancy Brothers: dead but not forgotten. I'll drink to that.
