Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I am absolutely certain that man can have an effect on climate. If you build a city on a prairie, where once there was but few trees along the two rivers, plant millions of trees, pipe water from hundreds of miles away, build dams to fill the pipes, cover hundreds of square miles in concrete and steel, you're bound to have an impact. Is the impact going to cause the overall temperature to rise? Is one or two degrees warmer a bad thing? Is the temperature rise just cyclical anyway? Don’t you suppose that God knew all this would happen? He’s in control. Take a chill pill.
I suppose that if you are a pagan, generally think that man is a scourge upon Mother Earth; you’re a left wing lunatic that wants to control everything and everyone, then climate hysteria is the perfect club in which to beat people into submission. And people like Hillary Clinton are just aching to put you in education camps. Didn’t you learn anything from the Covid lockdowns? Don’t you listen to what they say? Because you should and you should believe them. B. Hammer: Is the impact going to cause the overall temperature to rise?
That's more likely to cause regional effects rather than to have a global impact. B. Hammer: Is one or two degrees warmer a bad thing? It's a matter of degree. Warming of 1°C will cause observable changes, with some damage to ecosystems, while humans will need to implement expensive adaptations; 2°C will cause significant and permanent changes that will affect agriculture, fresh water availability, and a significant rise in sea levels; while 3°C will bring about vast changes including severe damage to ecosystems and inundation of human coastal settlements affecting hundreds of millions. The world is well on its way to 2-3°C warming, perhaps more. You might think that is inconsequential, but the difference between today's climate and a climate where ice sheets cover half of Europe and North America—an "ice-age unit"—is only about 6°C. Climate sensitivity is still subject to some uncertainty but is very likely to be between 2-4°C per doubling of atmospheric CO2. I think Earth's average temperature has been going up and down since the creation of the Earth. We do need to be better stewards of our planet and there in lies the problem. How do we do it? I do not think Al Gore and the Greenies are the answer and in my opinion they are more on the problem side of the equation.
The Earth's Temperature
QUOTE: Currently: 57.63°F/14.24°C Deviation: 0.43°F/0.24°C Stations processed last hour: 48011 Last station processed: Pickle Lake, Canada Update time: 2023-12-12 23:05:05 UTC https://temperature.global/ Argentina was once the European hub in South America, rich in natural resources, wealthy in culture and urbanity. Today's conditions there are the result of decades of leftist policy-making, and the consequences of using debt to buy favor. I wish their new leader success - he has a tough row to hoe.
I optimistically give Javier Milei six months before he is either assassinated or jailed. Perhaps both. This is how banana republics work.
Meanwhile in totally unrelated news Trumps prosecutor wants to move the trial forward so that they can convict and jail him before the election to assure he won't be president. Changing Everything To Keep Temps the Same
QUOTE: One of the peculiarities of the "Climate Change" movement, which is ostensibly about keeping global temperature the same, or at least within 1.5 °C of a U.N.-specified value, is its willingness to alter almost everything else to obtain this result. . . . A World Economic Forum article observes: "efforts to genetically engineer plants and animals for both climate change mitigation and adaptation are gaining momentum, driven by advancements in biotechnology." . . . Oceans would be seeded with genetically modified, heat tolerant coral. Crops grown in temperate climates would be tropicalized to make them more suitable for the sweltering future. . . . The biggest proposed changes target the 'anthro' part in anthropogenic global warming. Humanity itself must be altered, argues Matthew Liao of the Center for Bioethics at New York University. Make people temporarily or permanently allergic to eating meat and other mammalian products. Making people smaller. Reducing the average American's height by 6 inches would reduce food consumption by 25 percent. . . . The only justifiable way in which so many varied and far-reaching risks can be taken in the name of temperature mitigation is if the climate modelers are dead sure that the negative effects of geoengineering and genetic engineering are small in comparison to the benefits they expect. The great danger posed by the U.N.'s arbitrary 1.5 °C mandate is that it has become a religious imperative in whose name the skies can be darkened and life forms forever altered, where everything can be changed to hold a calculated target invariant. https://the-pipeline.org/changing-everything-to-keep-temps-the-same/ A single volcanic eruption has the potential to change the climate greater than anything man has done in their entire existence or foreseeable future. Or climate is controlled by the sun and to a lesser extent by various other external factors. Actual human caused climate change has never been detected.
Climate change is a big grift and like all grifts depends on a big lie and a loud and constant repeating of the lie. If they are successful you and I and all Americans will lose everything, our wealth, our freedom and our health. And a few billionaires and other countries will gain from our losses. That is why they keep pushing the lie. Our temperatures today are as good as they are ever likely to get. The earths history is one of much colder and much hotter eras. Todays climate is ideal. We could maybe use a little more atmospheric CO2 to enhance plant growth but other than that we have no complaints. Except from the grifters and the stupid. OneGuy: A single volcanic eruption has the potential to change the climate greater than anything man has done in their entire existence or foreseeable future.
Sure, and a giant asteroid could wipe out all life on Earth, making anthropogenic global warming and the price of butter all academic. However, supervolcanoes and giant asteroid strikes are very rare events, so when pricing butter, it's usually prudent to consider likely events such as the sale price, rather than worrying about dragons over the horizon. OneGuy: Or climate is controlled by the sun and to a lesser extent by various other external factors. What will those crazy scientists come up with next?! In any case, the Sun doesn't explain the current warming trend. OneGuy: Actual human caused climate change has never been detected. Anthropogenic global warming is supported by many different lines of evidence. Indeed, if you remove anthropic causes, the Earth would be slightly cooling, rather than rapidly warming. OneGuy: Todays climate is ideal. It's almost as if ocean level was made perfect for Miami. Any higher and Miami would be under water. Any lower, and Miami wouldn't be seaside. Rather, human civilization developed in a certain climatic context. While climate changes naturally, the rapid changes being experienced are human-caused and largely avoidable. Has it ever occurred to you that your constant need to engage on so many subjects endlessly is a sign that you're a religious fanatic? And that the issue that draws the most persistent, intense and confident responses, despite your poor grasp of many of the basic details, means that CAGW is the "doctrine" that you're most obsessed with.?
Has it dawned on you that your fanatical behavior has the opposite effect on your audience than the one that you likely intend (that you're right and that the other person is wrong)? Or is all of your commenting simply a way of identifying yourself, to yourself and others, as a member of the elect? You, and the world would be much better off if you adopted a hobby like LARPing, sports, or gaming. Most of the scientific community has found the evidence for anthropogenic global warming to be substantial and convincing. Evidence crosses multiple fields of study, from oceanography to physics to astronomy. The fundamental physics has been known for over a century. Climate scientists have launched satellites to study the spectra of Earth’s energy emissions, cloud cover, atmosphere, moisture, leaf cover, ice mass, sea level, launched radiosondes into the upper atmosphere, robotic buoys into the oceans, set up interferometers around the globe, mounted expeditions to the poles, tropics, glaciers, etc.
These are the scientists who provide us with the evidence for anthropogenic global warming. Sure, they could be wrong. But their conclusions are hardly religious doctrine or fantasy. The accumulated evidence needs to be taken seriously. Thinking Gore is a hypocrite or that some people are hysterical or that ClimateMonger420 says he has overturned Einstein does nothing to address the scientific evidence. "While climate changes naturally, the rapid changes being experienced are human-caused and largely avoidable."
That in a nutshell is the big lie behind the grift. They kinda screwed up though because even "experts" who are dedicated to the climate grift recognize that the level of fear they put into it to scare us also mean that no amount of human counter action can stop or reverse it. You can kill half the worlds population and make everyone else eat bugs and huddle in the cold in caves and according to their claims the climate will continue to warm and nothing can reverse it. They had to make all that up to scare you but the same set of fake facts means it can't be fixed. Oh well, no problem, just gloss over that and keep yelling the big lie from the roof tops. Every point Zach makes is a lie. He sprinkles truth here and there to try to put lipstick on his lies. But in the end everything he claims is simply untrue. No exceptions and the climate change grift is just one more example. The one world(ers), the NWO, the elite, however you refer to them are here to take everything from you. They intend to take everything and leave you to die. Make no mistake, this is WW III in a green dress and a Marxist playbook. They will take everything and eventually they know they will have to use violence to do it. That is their end game. They use bot's like Zach to spew their propaganda and they will use "immigrants" from the third world to do their dirty work. It's coming folks; the NWO-geddon. Call it what you want but it is coming for you and your family and everyone you know. And the enemy is inside the gates. OneGuy: They had to make all that up to scare you but the same set of fake facts means it can't be fixed.
As humans are the source of the problem, humans can certainly fix the problem. Indeed, the sooner action is taken, the lower the economic cost and the less permanent damage to humanity’s shared natural inheritance. Humans are highly adaptable, with much of that adaptability due to their ability to foresee problems, such as anthropogenic global warming, and especially in modern times through the application of the scientific method. Nor does responding to the problem of anthropogenic global warming mean giving up modernity. Indeed, confronting the problem requires continued economic growth to fuel the technological innovation and investment required, while also extending the benefits of development to all the world’s people. AGW does not reach the level of a hypothesis. Until it does it is a waste of time and money better spent on actual problems. The climate game is a statists game. But climate has never been static.
Wave good bye to AL and we can all get back to the real world. I see that Big Al has thrown a hissy fit that the World Climate Experts aren't quite ready yet to declare that fossil fuels MUST be eradicated in their updated report.
Looks like he'll just have to keep heating that big old pool for all those conferences. Sorry, Al. |
