We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I don't have many subscriptions, but the $50 that goes to Taibbi's Racket site is worth every penny. In addition to his reporting, which is quite good, but also his weekly Friday podcast with Walter Kirn, a well-regarded and witty senior journalist. They have a great rapport, and I don't miss a podcast.
My only criticism of Taibbi is that, for a journalist, he remains a little naive. He still has some left-of-center blind spots that just keep him from seeing things that are obvious, from time to time. But to be fair, he's getting there - and along the way, he's beginning to recognize that the evil Conservatives that he's been bred to hate, are actually (on the whole) quite a bit ore moderate than he's been giving them credit for. Kirn is helping him along on this journey.
Really enjoyed the interview. He's been red pilled a bit. But, I agree that he remains a bit naive. Stating that Bradley Manning is anything but a traitor who should be strung up is ridiculous. He also says to the effect "Bradley...at least that what he was called." So Taibbi is respecting a traitor's gender pronouns?
Other than that...I love to see a reformed liberal. It's like napalm in the morning.
