Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Babesiosis

Babesiosis was on my mind because a pal recently got sick after a tick bite. I've had countless tick bites, but never got ill after one.


And I see that AVI just got it too. Sheesh. Like Lyme, same darn kind of deer tick (not an ordinary dog tick. We're all used to dog ticks).


Anyway, Babesiosis is a nasty consequence if you get bitten by a bad tick.

It is too hot for pants so you have to check yourself after hiking off road.
A spider was hanging off the boonie hat so I placed it on a leaf and proceeded on.
There was a tick on the leg that got flicked off and a lighter works on a persistent specimen.

This is why God invented air conditioning, so we didn't have to go hiking off-road. Or hiking anywhere. It's not safe out there, Nature will try to kill you any way she can.

Spouse and I have had a scary number of tick bites over our lives from living in the woods loaded with lots of deer and wildlife. So far as we know haven't come up with any tick born disease though have often wondered in our old age if some of the large joint pain isn't a result of some of those bites. New place also in the trees doesn't seem to have the same heavy tick population, thank goodness.

I, too, was just diagnosed with Lyme and babeisoisis. Hopefully we caught it early and was put on 2 antibiotics and an antimalarial drug.
