Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

" 40,000 child slaves in Congo are forced to work in cobalt mines so we can drive electric cars." The environmental wackos and leftists seem to overlook the down side of their idiotic policies. "What kids are working in Africa? and who cares about all the whales dying due to the construction of all the wind turbines in the ocean?" All the while John Kerry and friends fly all over the world burning fossil fuels because they are important people, just ask them.
JC: The environmental wackos and leftists seem to overlook the down side of their idiotic policies.
Electric vehicles represented only 34% of global demand in 2021 (expected to increase to about half by 2026). Cobalt is also used in the batteries of smartphones, laptops, and other electronic devices, as well as industrial alloys and chemicals. Expect devastating house and business fires to increase dramatically as well. Lithium batteries are unstable. They will suddenly with no warning "explode" into flames and destroy anything within 30'-50' of it.
It would not be unreasonable to ban lithium powered bicycles and scooters from any inhabited building including the garage. It should be mandatory that cars and truck with lithium batteries not be allowed within 50' of an inhabited structure. OneGuy: Lithium batteries are unstable.
Lithium batteries are very reliable, but manufacturing defects, age, and misuse can cause them to ignite. While such occurrences are rare, when lithium batteries do ignite, they can be very dangerous. You may want to get rid of your smartphone, tablet, and laptop just to be safe. What’s worse, working in a cobalt mine, or having to attend drag queen story hour?
Hey, 40,000 child slaves in the Congo are out of sight of the Greens pushing EVs. As such, we can certainly say the old phrase "Out of sight, out of mind" applies. They don't care if child/slave labor is used to obtain the cobalt needed for the lithium-ion batteries coming from some Third World nation, as long as they can force everyone to drive EVs.
DCE: They don't care if child/slave labor is used to obtain the cobalt needed for the lithium-ion batteries
Better put down that smartphone, which also relies on cobalt for batteries. (Or, manufacturers could be pressured to ensure the integrity of the supply chain.) You're actually comparing a cell phone battery that weighs 32 grams to an EV battery that typically weighs between 30-60 pounds???
Lord Heathen: You're actually comparing a cell phone battery that weighs 32 grams to an EV battery that typically weighs between 30-60 pounds???
A car is typically in the garage. With a smoke detector, a fire will typically result in property damage, but not loss of life. Electronic devices are often in the bedroom or on planes. Spontaneous combustion is very rare, in any case. (As noted above, the annual mass of cobalt used in electric vehicles and electronic devices is about the same. The mass of lithium used is also about the same.) None of this has anything to do with the topic of child labor, however. In a way you have kind of illustrated how serious the problem of EV batteries is. A EV battery weighs about 1000 lbs. Your cell phone battery weighs about an ounce. The difference when they explode in flame is like the difference between a "lady finger" firecracker and the largest conventional bomb. If your EV battery explodes in flames in your garage your house will burn to the ground in record time and death of family members is likely.

You ignored our response. People don’t usually keep their car on their bed stand. The mass of annual production of lithium and of cobalt for batteries is about the same for electronic devices as it is for electric vehicles. Notably, there have been a number dangerous fires on planes due to electronic devices. Spontaneous fires due to lithium batteries are very rare, albeit dangerous.
None of this has anything to do with the topic of child labor, however.

The FBI had at least two dozen under cover people in the crowd who were there to make sure crimes happened so arrests could be made. There were also undercover police in the crowd. In addition the Democrats had their black shirts, Antifa and BLM in the crowd to cause chaos and create a riot. Most of the MAGA protesters were totally peaceful and simply naive as to what was going on behind the scenes. In fact in spite of the fact that most MAGA people don't trust their government they never in a 1000 years thought that Pelosi and Schummer would set them up like this to be Gulag'ed by the DOJ and FBI. And the Gulag'ing continues because whoever is behind the curtain running our government is scared of regular Americans and needs to scare them into submission.
Free the J6 Patriots. Jail the J6 FBI, CIA and congressional instigators. Ray Epps To Be Criminally Charged For Events On January 6, His Attorney Says
If this is true, why did they wait until now to charge him? Anyone have a theory? https://www.dailywire.com/news/ray-epps-to-be-criminally-charged-for-events-on-january-6-his-attorney-says He's not rotting in prison like so many of the other J6 demonstrators is he? I'd guess the Feds simply thought the Ray Epps story would go away but since it's got legs they feel compelled to act on it to "prove" he's not one of them. He'll be one of the last ones charged, half of which will be dismissed on a technicality of one sort or another, given a slap on the wrist and a stern lecture and sent merrily on his way.
Jerryskids: He's not rotting in prison like so many of the other J6 demonstrators is he?
The vast majority of J6 defendants were released on bail. Epps has yet to be arrested. If he is arrested, he will be given a bail hearing. The presumption under the federal Bail Reform Act is pretrial release. To hold someone before trial requires the government to show the person is a danger to society, a flight risk, or would attempt to undermine the judicial process. Ukraine is a failed state and NATO is a failed institution. Neither show the kind of leadership needed to survive and prosper.
It's getting real! Biden is going to send 3000 National Guard troops to Europe because of some unnamed emergency. Those of you who are old like me, 80 YO, will remember how the Vietnam war started. It does indeed appear that Biden is going to war with Russia in Europe.
In totally unrelated news a recent letter by politicians and other important Americans who absolutely believe we need to go to war with Russia in Ukraine exposes that most of them are connected to or invested in American Arms companies. I'm sure it means nothing. Fellow Americans, when this all explodes you are going to be asked to send your sons and daughters to fight this war. Don't do it. I can not adequately tell you the sorrow and regret so many parents of Vietnam war soldiers injured or killed have expressed to me over the years. Yes! fight to defend our country but don't go to Ukraine to die so that rich fat cats can become richer. And vote the bastards out. |
