Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Do you know how to make an alternator?

Even in theory? Much less a marine alternator...Yeah, we had to make a little one in Jr. High School Science. Fun with wires and magnets and stuff. But a functional explosion-proof marine one? God forbid. A/C current is cool.


The people who design and make such things are smarter than I am.

Thank Nikola Tesla. Poor guy did more for modern America and the world than Henry Ford, and he died penniless for his trouble, feeding pigeons and living on crackers.

I just installed a new one this year, went from 80 amps to 120 amps. Had to upgrade all the cable it touched but well worth the trouble. Didn't have the dough to go with an external regulator however, that would have been the cherry on top.
Great to see the engine fire up and start pushing a gazzillion electrons at my battery bank.
I learned more than I planned to about regulators, diodes, full fielding (Look it up).
Don't forget to upgrade your belt system too if increasing power substantially.

Working with induced currents is a very specialized area. Very different than starting with applied voltage differences.
