We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
He's a bright, but more verbal (despite his hoarse voice), guy with what used to be a magic last name. Doubt I would vote for him but I'd be glad to have a beer with him.
The message is, dismiss him as a conspiracy-theory, anti-vaxing crank. Thank you for that input. I very well might dismiss him, but I will listen to him first.
I think that RFK (his dad) was probably the best of all the brothers, but Joe Sr. was a criminal and Uncle Teddy represented the worst kind of perpetually-re-elected low-life. A corrupt, cheating, fat-kat hypocrite that loved the Big Political Machine because it gave him a lifetime, front-of-the-line pass for the worst kind of pandering narcissistic behavior - all because of his name.
So RFK Jr. gets no credit when he starts relating the family legends, quite the contrary. But I think he has a valid message, for one thing he is frankly critical of the status quo and isn't loath to say why, quite well. And if the status quo can only answer by trying to end-run him with censorship, only more reason to listen to his ideas. Such attacks build his credibility.
He's the third person that I've ever known with spasmodic dysphonia. The first was a teacher of mine in high school, a combat veteran, and the second is family. With this background, I perceive it as a disability and work around it. It will be a downside for a lot of people, it's true. I wonder if he's ever taken the Botox shots to the voice box, which brings temporary relief.
I agree it is a disability and I sympathize. But life isn't fair. How many times do we see someone on TV and joke they have a face that was made for radio. Or mor realistically you see a singer on American Idol who is fat and ugly but has a good voice and another singer who is beautiful and has a good voice. Who is going to have the better career. As teens and 20 somethings the taller men get the girl and the prettier girls get the guy. Life is unfair and yet makes perfect sense.
Remember in the movie Braveheart the father of Robert the Bruce had to hide in the tower because of his "disability" because if the people saw him his power and status would disappear. Humans expect certain things, they will tolerate less but will gravitate to what they believe is the best for them. I want my leader to look and act the part and certainly be more capable than me. If he is a world renowned genius and looks or acts incompetent I'm opting out. I can be his friend but not his willing subject.
Having said that I also fear that RFK Jr has some serious mental health issues. He is conveniently spouting a few things now that endear him to some voters. But take that away and let him say out loud what he has been saying for decades now and you can only conclude he is batshit crazy. IMHO he should never have any power in government of any kind because of his crazy ideas and inexplicable reasoning to support those ideas. Just saying.
I read the Kindle version of "The Real Anthony Fauci," and was impressed with the way the references were handled -- there were active links to the sources so they could be checked out. And I checked out a lot of them.
That being said....
I think he is a bit of an unrealistic, out-of-touch nutjob. I may agree with him on the whole COVID business, but he is over-the-top on vaccines in general. Not to mention his "climate change" stance is a luxury that only wealthy people like him can really afford. He'd be a total nightmare as president, though probably not as bad as the current one, or Obama, or Jimmy Carter. But they have set pretty low standards for incompetence -- it would take a total imbecile or malevolent b*****d to be worse than them.
I wonder how much his brain has been addled by his drug use. He survived the drug use to grow out of it, unlike his brother who he may very well have introduced to using drugs. His track record on marriage is also appalling, but then so is Trump's. But there were unanswered questions about his second wife's suicide.
