Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Smoke

I can smell the smoke from Canada today but not yesterday. Strong smell like a campfire with wet wood. Sun is dark. Light is yellow, sky going from pale purple to yellow-orange. Those fires must be large, and there is a north wind.


Interesting. Bad conditions to go for a 3-mile run.

I guess it's a good thing that I ran yesterday rather than pushing it off to today!

In NJ, directly south of NYC, we have the same yellow light. Visibility has noticeably decreased in the past hour. The house across the street now looks like an aged photo rather than, well, the house across the street.

Circa '98 Texans could smell the smoke from forest fires in the Yucatan, 1000 miles away.

Here in south central Vermont we have nothing. No haze, no smell of smoke, absolutely not a thing. Our kids in northeast Pennsylvania, on the other hand, are experiencing really heavy smoke from the fires.

I guess the wind direction is our friend this time.

It's your turn. Here in MN we had that smoke for two weeks. Sunny days looked completely clouded over.
