We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Getting cars cleaned on rainy day

Why not? No lines. For the few of us who showed up this morning they gave us a voucher for a 2-hour $200 detailing. Nice, but who has time for that?


Cars and wheels are filthy, but it's the inside that really needs the expert cleaning. Yeah, House Wren got into one of our cars where I left the window open, and it crapped all over. Not my job.

My vehicle is almost 5 YO, 80K miles never washed it.

You think the wren caused a mess? Family member had car stolen and used in horrific crime. Can you imagine how the inside, not to mention the bullet holes on the outside, looked after forensics teams finished with the car? Insurance company says "screw you" . A two hour inside detailing may not begin to make a dent on the inside. I do know how messy wrens and other critters can be though.

One of our cars is a rolling dog kennel. Every now and then I pay to have it pretty thoroughly cleaned, though I always reassure the car detailers that I don't expect it to survive a CSI probe. Just drive the howling chaos back temporarily, I ask, because the dogs are going right back in.

The other car is a little better, because the dogs are rarely in it. I'm afraid I'm not very neat or clean.
