We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
When I was a wee tyke (early 1960s) my grandad would rent a summer house on the beach for a few weeks. One summer it was just south of Cape Cod, and during that stay, they found a WWII German torpedo underneath an old stone bridge over the mouth of an estuary. It was still live, which gave pause to all the folks that habitually fished there. The village there still had the old reinforced concrete sub-spotter towers up. It wasn't so long ago...The Caribbean also saw a lot of action.
Husband's Uncle "Lee" was a prairie boy who ended up serving in the engine room of merchant marine ships during WW II. When asked about his experiences, he would only say that - when the alarm sounded - he was first up the ladder. That I rather doubt.
Canada was slow to acknowledge those who served in the merchant marine were worth of recognition. However, a very belated and rather grudging recognition did come. When Uncle died, his medals were displayed and his bravery recognized. His brother (wounded at Ortona) died not that long later and - again - the wartime record we did not know was recognized. But that's the same for the men of my family; they never spoke of what they saw and did. Some have been buried in the "veteran" section of graveyards; others have their memorial in the memories of their families.
Roosevelt had to force Japan to attack in order to fill his insatiable urge to fellate Joe Stalin. Frankie surely knew that by cutting off resources to Japan, they would HAVE TO attack to save face. Check ANY Asian culture and you can easily see that.
Then once he had forced us into the war, he started shoveling aid to the Communist swill as fast as possible. Had no interest whatsoever in the Pacific!
Then Harry was glad to follow up by fellating Mousey Tongue in China!
