We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Top Disastrous Runway Plane Crashes

Flying commercial is safer than crossing a street. What impresses me are the investigators of the rare accidents that happen.

I'm rather hoping the NTSB can provide information on the Palestine train derailment and I would also like to see them address the common occurrences of train derailments and the causes that might have reasonable preventative measures.

Being in aviation we always paid attention to findings and preventative action but there is rarely a public discourse on rail accidents even though they are rather frequent.

There’s a saying in the industry.

The NTSB has 6 months to investigate what you had 10 seconds to decide.

There have been a few very dangerous close calls with near miss airliners recently. ATC's messed up most of the time but not all. There is a big problem out there that must be fixed. A huge disaster is in the offing and sooner than later. Then there are the collisions with other objects.

This airline pilot comments on many crashes within a day or two, offering analysis and commentary. Much good stuff from northern California.
