We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

How Business Giants Get Lower Interest Rates for Meeting Diversity Quotas
Or, How businesses get lower interest rates by discriminating against white men.
One wonders how this is legal on the part of the lenders when they discriminate based on skin color?
One also wonders why the shareholders would approve pf making less money?
In the America I once lived in, this would never happen.
Meloni is right. Now what she should do is let the ship into port, arrest every non-migrant for trafficking and send the migrants back home.
No, she should authorise the Italian navy to sink any and all of these pirate ships on entering Italian territorial waters, no prisoners.
They're pirates, the internationally agreed penalty for piracy on the high seas is death.
"How did I get the midterms wrong"
The election process was set up to allow cheating. Do you really think there was no cheating? Pelosi and friends effectively used the pandemic to set up massive vote by mail and expand the number of unattended drop boxes and surprise the left used these new changes to cheat. So this election cycle we don't "know" where the cheating happened, yet. But do you really think they didn't steal congressional elections?
The Republican politicians didn't want to question the 2020 election because they didn't want Trump to be president. So the official response was the most honest election in our lifetime. Then comes the 2022 election and the red wave petered out. Did the Democrats steal it again? Probably and because the Republicans didn't push for and facilitate exposing the cheating in 2020 they lost in 2022. How do you like those "honest" elections now? Oh! Wait! It's all Trump's fault. You reap what you sow.
'France Forced To Accept NGO Migrant Boat After Italian PM Meloni Refuses To Back-Down In Call With Macron'
Good on Meloni, but I fear it's akin to slamming the doors shut after all the horses have run out.
We can only hope the risng populist tide will keep those low-IQ nomads at bay.
Keep them at bay? I guess you haven't visited any major European city in the past decade. But i guess we are about to find out how well mass immigration plays with a major economic recession. My guess: not very well.
I'm trying to figure out how exactly France was "forced" to accept these migrants. Were the migrants more heavily armed than the French military? Or are the French just so used to surrendering that they didn't even put up a fight? We all know these migrants aren't being "rescued" in some sort of humanitarian effort, they simply set to sea on whatever sort of leaky old craft they can find, go out 12 miles and then call for "rescue" and these watermelon activists go "rescue" them to Europe. How far are we from Camp of the Saints dystopian conspiracy-theory world?
Return the illegals to their original country, arrest the NGO crew, and sink the ship.
Watched Mark Groubert go through US history of cheating in elections. He says what we all know. It shouldn't take days and weeks to count, and that generally allows cheating. It is a legitimate question why a state like FL or a country like Brazil can have results in a matter of hours. And they wonder why we don't trust the results. This is why.
We had elections in which the results were always known at midnight or before. Then we introduced "technology" into the election count so that we could CHEAT over a period of days or weeks.
It is why I posted the piece the other day on the SCOTUS decision in 1997. We have an election DAY as prescribed by Congress. We do not have election DAYS.
If the states cannot comply then their voting will not count and they must hold another election or forfeit the states vote.
Becky: It is a legitimate question why a state like FL or a country like Brazil can have results in a matter of hours.
Florida has not yet counted all the votes. Provisional and overseas ballots are still outstanding in most counties. The media has "projected" the winner, because enough votes are counted that the remaining votes will not change the outcome.
Any results on election night are unofficial results. No state is finished counting on election night. Any reporting that says otherwise is incorrect. There are always provisional and absentee ballots that can come in that are added to the official totals on canvass day.
Actually, they never count military ballots unless they could make a difference in the outcome.
Don't bury the lede. Yes every state has some ballots that are counted late. The issue here is Florida counted all the ballots that were available on election night. Arizona with half of Florida's voters didn't even count 40% until the next day. Arizona probably won't count "all" the votes until next week. Nevada has even fewer voters and they may not have a count until Saturday. Something is seriously wrong in a number of states. Seriously wrong.
OneGuy: The issue here is Florida counted all the ballots that were available on election night.
Federalism at work. On election day, Florida only allows mail-in ballots to be dropped off at the Supervisor of Elections. In Arizona, you can drop your ballot off at any polling place or drop box. More than quarter million such ballots were received in Arizona on election day, and they all require signature matching. And that takes time.
Personally, I don't really care for Trump as a person. I voted for him twice, but would prefer someone else in the next presidential election. He has done us a huge favor, he has exposed the republican leadership as nothing more than go along to get along with democrats. It's been a uniparty for 60 years. He did us a great service exposing that.
I've had to come to terms with the fact that Americans don't care for the American ideals of government. They love themselves some socialism. The younger ones have no foundation of the history of how and why America came to be. They don't seem to realize that America was a rather large exception to the rule of tyranny. They believe that the world is ending due to climate change and that all white people are racist. Including themselves, I guess.
I have my concerns as to whether the elections are on the up and up. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be a concern for most Americans. The voters just are not into freedom. They crave a nanny state. I doubt I will live to see another republican elected President. The media arm of the democrat party has them convinced that republicans are fascist. They can't seem to see that democrats are actually the second coming of Mao\Stalin. Pennsylvania elected an actual dead guy to congress and a brain dead guy to the Senate. Pennsylvanians don't care. Why should I?
God help us as we enter a new dark age. Tough times ahead.
Bitcoin Facing An Existential Crisis As Exchange Meltdown Continues
What the Republicans need to do is end the practice of sending money to other countries. Especially the UN demand that we give $2 trillion to other countries to save them from climate change. I think these expenditures piss off the taxpayers more than most other ways that they piss away our money. No more for Ukraine either, send them thoughts and prayers.
