Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

I've taken to removing my attention when I encounter the term "deep dive." I'm thinking of doing the same with "coup."
Ditto. You can add "influencer" and "trending" to the list.
>Why are we feeding crops to our cars when people are starving?
I can't comment on whether biofuels contribute more to global warming than petrochemicals, as I don't know, and I don't think CO2 is as big a problem as the Government and the Media want you to think. But one thing that the author doesn't mention, and that rarely gets noted, is that when you turn corn into ethanol there's still a lot of the corn left over, an that gets fed to cows and pigs, which in turn people, cats and dogs eat. What makes you think "feeding crops to cars" was NOT the objective with people starving?
Have you noticed the cohencidence of food processing plants being destroyed in the past 12 months? Of food delivery chains being disrupted? Etc etc??? I guess it must be "luck" that Bill Gates - everyone's injection "saint" - just happened to buy up a ton of farmland? Wake up. William - let's clear a few things. CO2 is plant food, not pollution. Climate change has happened, is happening, and will happen. That's what the climate does. Were it not for 'global warming", I would be trying to write this under some 2 km of ice (that being the depth ice over my current dwelling during the last ice age).
Okay, let's move on to the "biofuels' bit. I have a friend who will absolutely not fuel the vehicle with anything with a biofuel additive. The reason: I'm not fueling my car with someone else's food source. I agree. Also, it is generally recognized (except by the elites) that the addition of ethanol (the biofuel product) is not a good thing for the average engine. Mileage is seriously reduced, and their is talk - though not verified - of damages to engines. Please let me clear some things up. One, nobody has every gone hungry because of biofuels. Hungry people did not start with the advent of biofuels, and they won't go away if you stop producing them. The grain used to make biofuels is overwhelmingly surplus to what would go into the food supply, and would have been used for livestock feed, not direct to human food, had it not been made into ethanol, etc. And yes, in the case of corn based ethanol 40% of the original feedstock is used as a livestock feed that happens to be of higher value than the original corn. The mileage reduction is very minimal with lower level blends and virtually every engine made since 2001 was designed to handle E10. Newer engines will handle higher blends with no problems whatsoever. Problems with small engines get blamed on corn based ethanol but like nearly everything else we buy today, small engines are made much cheaper than they were 20 or especially 40 years ago. Plastic and rubber components were never going to hold up as well compared to steel, no matter what fuel you run through them.
> let's clear a few things. CO2 is plant food, not pollution.
What part of "I don't think CO2 is as big a problem as the Government and the Media want you to think." did you fail to understand? > I'm not fueling my car with someone else's food source. I guess you failed to understand my whole comment. Oh well. You can lead a horse to water, and all that. The breakdown of the infrastructure continues to be All A Big Mystery. After breaking down how bad the picture is with air travel, the story stops: no root cause explanation may be found, but several 'lite' explanations (weather, security clearances, generic staff shortages, etc) abound.
Simple questions: 1. People are traveling again, so demand is up. How much is demand 'up' compared to last year, 2 years ago, 3 years ago, 4 years ago? 2. How many pilots have left the industry over the past 2 years, and why did they leave? How many retired? How many left because of vaccine mandate non-compliance? How many left because of health-related vaccine effects that have left them unfit to fly? These matter consumed news coverage a few scant months ago yet have dropped off the radar in the after-effect period. 3. How many flight support ground crew have left the industry over the past 2 years, and why did they leave? Is it all a simple matter of COVID-related layoffs because nobody was traveling? Apparently the data that could normally be easily accessed to supply answers and insight is nowhere to be found, just like the writer's curiosity. I notice there's also no forecast on how or when the problem might be resolved. All A Big Mystery. One more question. How much money are the airlines losing on weekend vacation travelers who booked tickets months ago when oil was $40 / bbl lower? Appears that more flights are being cancelled Fri - Sun than Mon - Thurs.
Puritan is a relative term, depending on what it is you are trying to maintain as pure. The first Christian Puritans were trying to teach and preach "pure doctrine," in keeping with Paul's admonition to Timothy in the pastoral epistles. "Puritanical" only ever took on its moralistic connotations with subsequent generations who did not understand the difference between "pure doctrine" (faithfulness to the revelation) and "moral purity" (which is ultimately a lapse back into the heretical idea that human are justified before God by their works). Now, however, the reference for "purity" is strict adherence to inherently incoherent progressive ordure. I won't dignify it by calling it orthodoxy.
The Puritans had their faults, but basically have gotten a bad rap and consistent misunderstanding. I recommend the first section of David Hackett Fischer's Albion's Seed to get a clearer idea of what American Puritans were like. Example: If they had a morbid fear, it was of death, not sex.
The article's author most likely was incorrectly trying to reference the Right, when in fact it is spot on for today's radical Left, which elevates its misunderstanding of judeo-Bolshevik Marxism as their "religion." Hence every perversion, deviation, destruction, degeneracy, rank envy and hatred are ALL PERCEIVED AS 'VIRTUE.'
Nothing will stop them other than an equal but opposite vehemence turned back on them. " Hillary Clinton says Clarence Thomas has been a person of ‘resentment, grievance and anger’ his whole life" I didn't bother to read the article as what ever Hillary Clinton says is pretty much trash. I think from the title she has it wrong, she is the one that has been full of resentment, grievance and anger and not Clarence Thomas.
Exactly. It is axiomatic that leftists project "like an IMAX". It's right out of the old Leninist Bolshevik cookbook: Accuse your rivals (="enemies", in their view) of exactly what you yourselves are doing, and act all shocked and outraged about it.
Not knowing history may condemn you to repeat it, but the alternative is similar in effect to being forced to watch the same sitcom episode over and over again. Hillary Clinton says Clarence Thomas has been a person of ‘resentment, grievance and anger’ his whole life
Praise from Caesar. Obviously, Hillary never read his book. Mr. Thomas rejected the leftist Marxism; Hillary embraced it.
Clarence Thomas is the exact opposite of everything Hillary is. He is a good man. I just read an article about how he travels around the country in his RV, mixing it up with the citizens. Some don’t even know who he is. God bless Clarence Thomas, I hope he has a long life. Seems the anti-Donald Left propaganda has gone entirely *coup-coup.
Who would have guessed that a deep dive into Queer Theory would have uncovered pedophilia, the sexualization of children, and the rejection of Western Civilization ?
The Supreme Court seems to have picked up on the radical idea that if you want the law changed, you have to make a new law; you can't just pretend the old law now means something different than what it did last week.
Couple that with the idea that the 10th Amendment was not repealed by the 14th, I know, more radical thinking, and we seem to be moving back to the constitutional republic envisioned, rather than the parlimentary democracy we've been migrating towards. Army Drops Requirement for High School Diploma Amid Recruiting Crisis
QUOTE: The Army and its sister services have scrambled this year, offering increasingly generous benefits and policy tweaks in an effort to improve recruiting numbers. The Army has hit 40% of its recruiting goals this year, with the struggle to fill the ranks seemingly so grim the Defense Department reduced its planned total force size because prior recruiting goals were out of reach. https://www.military.com/daily-news/2022/06/24/army-drops-requirement-high-school-diploma-amid-recruiting-crisis.html Funny how when you go from projecting 'heroism' to 'be as woke as you can be' you find a lot of your backbone demographic just going "Yah, no - I'm good."
And apparently the woke that they were thinking were going to flock to sign up are going "Yeah, we don't want anything to do with THOSE cishet racist/sexist/everythingphobes... 'sides, I never get up before noon." They get the most people signing up when they emphasize duty, honor and heroism. Guess that wasn't 'inclusive' enough. H. Clinton on Justice Thomas: She left out "uppity," which most likely was a word she used many years past.
