Same here. the small birds drink in the morning and evenings, as well as through the day, at our birdbaths. And in dry spells there is a lot of competition, They wait their turn tho, and usually only two or three birds will be at the bath at once, others coming up as those leave. Many types, such as robins and cardinals, are willing to share, while a few, like the blue jays, run the others off so they have the bath to themselves.

During the terrible drought a few years ago, the species shared space and would all use the birdbath at once, and I looked up one day and they were lined up literally in a queue atop the carport, waiting their turn.... again, without regard to species.

This past week on Wednesday as the cold & snow moved in, all of the birds were in a frenzy eating and drinking as if they knew what was coming. I was surprised to see a woodpecker at the birdbath drinking. Also a red-wing blackbird showed up for the seeds while everything was covered with snow. He came twice, the first time I've ever seen one in the yard. Normally they prefer the open fields outside of town.
