We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
A "classical" composer listens to Pink Floyd. It shows me what informed musicians are able to hear. (h/t American Digest, who has two other performances of Shine On. The song is from 1975.
Wouldn't it be great to go back and listen to great music like this for the first time all over again, but with just a bit more understanding? Like Michael B., I just liked it, didn't really know it had all that structure to it, which of course is the underlying reason it's so good.
Whenever Pink Floyd and/or David Gilmour is mentioned, I can't help but post this link to this absolutely soul-piercing performance: Pink Floyd - Comfortably Numb, Pulse concert. The outro guitar solo is, well, I have no words, actually. Just go listen.
Being able to analyze by ear lets you play anything you hear easily but takes away from enjoyment like you had when you couldn't do it. It takes years to get over analyzing once you've started.
