Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Tarquenia


Driving north from the Rome airport along the coastal highway towards Orbetello, we had to stop in Tarquenia to look at the famous Etruscan tombs and their frescoes (the Monterozzi necropolis). This cemetary was in use from about the 9th C BC until Roman times.


Etruscans, as I view it, were proto-Romans.  A fresco sample:

For year DH has asked: "whatever happened to the Etruscans?" Believing that the early Greeks were far superior in culture and art than what the Romans later became. He kept hoping that we could answer the mystery--you have done that BD! Given the refined understanding of art, I have always suspected they headed on north to France. :-)
