We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Backlash to Woke

Kotkin: Have we reached the high water mark of woke? American progressives are provoking a furious backlash.



 The scalps of those targeted by the woke are strewn across the landscape. There’s the cancellations of ideologically unacceptable speakers, the delisting of books and the increasingly selective media coverage, evident particularly in the 2020 election and its aftermath. Yet the very vehemence of progressives, their lack of humour or grace, may prove to be their undoing.

Normal people don't really have a problem with 'disagreeableness'. Everyone gets disagreeable from time to time when they get the short end of something, and this is how it is put right: By objecting, then talking it through.

But nearly every normal person understands unfairness, and disagrees with it. Not just Americans, pretty much every western culture, and more besides. Today's environment is toxic with unfair demands of our attention and of our living space.

Hypocrisy, unfairness, these are all being embraced as tactics by those wanting to wrest power from the cultural institutions who in the past have wielded power in furtherance of western culture. They want power so they can reshape things in their image - with them in charge, of course, and you as craven, demoralized, powerless subjects.

History shows there is really only one way to deal with naked aggression, with bullies. Patience and understanding is not the answer; the stick is the answer. There are many more of us than there are of them.

Is there a backlash? Just to give one example, my neighbors never heard the story of the father who was arrested after confronting the Loudon Co, VA schoolboard for covering up the rape of his daughter in the school's restroom.

Very few people are less tolerant (or less rational) than "Liberals," who will even attack the foundations of their own identity and society. Irksome jerks, indeed.

Kotkin is quite good. But all people in the public discussion (including all of us) have a distorted view of who is upset and how much. About anything. Exasperated's example is a reminder. Most people have lives to live and don't notice.

A bit too much NeverTrumpian throat-clearing for my taste; I don't recall anyone being deplatformed by that Bad Orange Man. And comparing the Deregulation Champion of the 21st Century to Mussolini is just a goddamn lie willfull deception.

The backlash is shown in many ways but one of the most reliable is when several videos go viral from all over the country of parents getting visibly angry at local school board meetings, you can be sure there are 10x that many who are pissed as hell but didn’t speak out. Maybe 50x or 100x.

The schools really overplayed their hand with the whole pandemic mess (remote learning, masks, vaccines, all with a “f.u.” attitude that taxpaying parents do not appreciate) and then immediately piling CRT on top of that. The power play is far too obvious.

So even many busy parents — with lives to lead and jobs and social lives — are finally beginning to see the light causing many of them to show up at these meetings and even go on record in front of their friends and acquaintances. They have a lot to lose by doing that, so that alone tells you how deep this anger goes.

We can safely assume there are a lot of based normies out there. If you don’t believe me, go to some local school board meetings and talk to real people with skin in the game, and report back.

The problem is that the non-political majority go back to their old disinterest and uninvolvement after their issue is resolved/peters out. This is what happened to the Tea Party.

The Left are political critters by definition, who keep at it year in, year out.

Normal Western patriots must understand that they will have to remain politically involved for the rest of their lives...

I hate to be all black pilled, but I agree. At most, Woke-controlled institutions will just table their plans for a couple months until people stop paying attention. And I don't think we've reached the broad-based level of fury necessary to root them out of those positions of power.
