We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I believe each of the components necessary for a comeback, will, over time, help restore the city. It will be choppy, and uneven, but long term favorable results are possible.
I do worry about the politicians screwing it up. The AOC Amazon mess comes to mind. De Bozo replacement is a risk too.
Give the people a chance and get out of the way. Don't do stupid things.
The game is afoot in the oil & gas business. It's not just the pipelines being curtailed: Keystone XL, the final link in a mostly completed line (Biden), or Dakota Access, having its right-of-way hassled (Corps of Engineers), or Line 5, in operation for 60 years, now in jeopardy (Gov. Whitmer).
Yesterday Shell was handed defeat in its home country, from the Hague, being forced to reduce emissions before 2050. And also yesterday, Exxon was forced by a tiny hedge fun to add at least two seats to their board, seats designed to run the company out of business using environmental issues as the cudgel.
Over the past few months shareholders have received a flurry of Proxy Vote materials, both from Exxon and the hostile investment hedge fund, Engine No1. I've lost count; Normally these come once per year, but I've received about 3 from Exxon and at least double that from Engine. It was a campaign of deception, with Engine No1 seeking to get investors to vote without realizing what they were doing. That, and they got some of the major investment groups and pension funds to side with them, organizing to drive Exxon to extinction from within.
You think gas prices are high now, because they're up about 60+% from Trump days? You ain't seen nothin' yet. Just remember - it's being taken in this direction because the science isn't convincing enough to change your mind on its own legitimacy - and because there is no alternative solution to the internal combustion engine that is viably competitive.
Predictably, Wild Horses Are Still Suffering Due to Federal Slaughter Ban: I trust nothing the NYT prints. Still , "good intentions" tend not to work out well.
Beliefs Aren't Facts: This should be obvious. SHOULD!
American Psychiatry Association Condemns the 'Structural Racism' Murder of George Floyd: These are the ones whose heads should be examined.
George Floyd’s Legacy Is Secure: Well, until Minneapolis gets its heads on straight, and the smart people have left.
Why the tailored suit — not ruffles and lace — became synonymous with power: From the WaPoo, which I despise, detest, and totally distrust.
Drew Holden Demands to Know When CNN, The New York Times, and The Washington Post Will Correct Their Prior Claims that the Lab Leak Theory Was a "Debunked Conspiracy Theory":
THAT will be "NEVER".
New York and Michigan Will Force 2-Year-Olds To Wear Masks at Camp. As the pandemic improves, kids are being asked to make even more sacrifices. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigt; like THAT'S gonna work. Insanity on PARADE!
the youth are targeted for increased conditioning with masks and the fear p0rn because they are easier controlled and will grow up NOT remembering a time when there was what little freedom we just recently had. you know, our own bodily sovereignty.
Manhattan coming back. ? What NYC has lost, is a diversity of business. A lot is due to our loss of US manufacturing.Lost are
the thousand small business,(manufacturing & retail) that used to occupy NYC. Manhattan has become a housing project for the rich, gone
are all the small business, much like small town America.
Manhattan & NYC lost its back bone, manufacturing. Small
retailers that relied on a diversity of US manufactured goods
to fill there stores, no longer had suppliers.
There was a day when the now closed under ground walk ways in Manhattan had hundreds of small shops, all are gone.
Since the 70's NY as a whole continues to lose business.
America will not survive as a service industry based country.
Neither will NYC.
