Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Somewhere John Houseman is spinning in his grave.
Skulls full of mush, indeed. Yes, that's a character he played and not he himself, but he taught acting at Juilliard, and was a co-founder of the acting program there. It was built to educate in classical theory and technique, as opposed to the more "modern" approaches such as Method Acting that had been gaining prominence through institutions such as the Actor's Studio. The greatly oversimplified difference was that it taught finding the performance in the text, whereas the new (at the time) philosophy was to find the performance within yourself. Its students were to emerge grounded in the classics and able to perform the classic repertoire. In current parlance, this was their brand. Now the students are demanding to have that rigorous approach thrown out, in favor of the current fashion. They are seeking to devalue or destroy the value of the very credential they seek. The emphasis on being on time and prepared for class is part of the rigor being taught. The play starts when the curtain goes up; there's no room for any deviation around that. Being taught precisely what you already believe is a recipe for stagnation, not for growth in any field. Solar storms are a Sword of Damocles hanging over our modern electrical/electronic infrastructure. One day it will drop. I hope we will be prepared to survive that storm.
I keep seeing this phrase: "Politics is downstream of culture"; It's in the Dylan story. What does this even mean? Isn't it demonstrably untrue, an undesirable condition? It's often used to browbeat political professionals, to get them into alignment with the latest social fads.
But that's not why we have political leaders. This is just a way to nudge the responsible ones further away from power. Political leadership shapes culture; it's the large rock around which culture flows, on its way downstream. And who / what is shaping culture these days? Do you think we have looting-filled, violence-filled riots as a common event because political leadership is doing a good job, setting the tone? Or is it because many of them are scurrying along after culture, trying to placate it and ingratiate themselves on the downstream side? Is that leadership>? I think this expression has come into the common lexicon because we haven't had effective policy-making that charts a course rather than pandering to the crew. It's been this way for a long time, and it's showing. If politics is downstream of culture, then political operatives from PACs and other NGOs are fully functioning as cutural leadership on the upstream side: Organizing riots, providing bottomless funding for the preferred electoral candidates, for Antifa, for BLM, CRT, extra-governmental autonomous zones, and other agenda-driven efforts. No election necessary, eh? "Why don't Blacks seem to think Black Lives Matter?"
They only care about Black Lives when they come to an end courtesy of a White Life. www.weaselzippers.us/469705-john-kennedy-has-a-message-for-non-gun-owners/: YOWZA!!
Why don't Blacks seem to think Black Lives Matter? GOOD question! Answers? Don't ask. The Revolution Comes to Juilliard...And they're LOVING it. Solar storms are back, threatening life as we know it on Earth: It's news to me; I didn't notice it. ‘Fast and Furious’ star John Cena apologizes to China for calling Taiwan a country: Taiwan is an island, and a country. Noted in Passing: To honor George Floyd on the first anniversary of his holy martyrdom some of his acolytes decided to shoot each other. Why don't Blacks seem to think Black Lives Matter? Because they shoot other blacks. Re: Pentagon official leading military extremism crackdown said Trump supporters are extremists
Extreme? How can half of the country be extreme?? It’s pretty clear to me that the Pentagon official is the extremist here. Bicycling is white supremacy:
So is eating Vanilla ice cream. Printing on white paper. Using Scotch tape. ad infinitum... Solar storms ... all the right people are focused on CO2 stupidity instead of fortifying the electric grid, etc.
EMPs are a similar threat needing a similar solution. EMP's are much worse than solar storms:

Tried to create "my account" on the IRS website today. The IRS claims that by creating access to my account I will know how much I owe, the last tax payment made, etc. HOWEVER about two steps into the process it asked for the last 8 digits of a credit card, or your auto loan number, or your student loan number, or your home equity line of credit number. THE IRS REQUIRED this personal information claiming they only needed it to make sure I was who I said I was. BUT THEN in the side bar it said it was using the personal loan number to do a "soft pull" on your credit record. I dunno folks, but it seems to me as if the girls in charge of our government are just trying to gather information they do not have a right to have. After all I am only asking about my status as a tax payer with the government--where do they get the authority to run a complete background check vis a vis my credit history? Seems to me like this just one more example of the Democratic party hammer fist approach to Democracy! Test it for your self. Go to IRS. Go to the coronavirus site and click on get my info then sign up, etc. I saw this same thing - only thing I can figure is that they're doing some snooping to see if your credit spending aligns with your reported income.
