Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Unfortunately, they are beating the WRONG Jews. How come they never beat Soros or Bloomberg or Schiff or Nadler or Schumer or Zucker or Zuckerberg or any other of the filthy maggot tribe swill who fund and sponsor the illegal alien terrorist invaders??? Never mind. You know very well why. THOSE are the putrid sewage who are funding THEM!!!
Let me save Maggie readers some precious time:
You can safely skip all articles by pundits analyzing Palestinian "strategy". They invariably ascribe to Palis values, motives and perceived best interests that are obvious to Westerners but totally foreign to Muslim/Arab culture. Everything can be more accurately explained by seeing Muslim culture clearly and unflinchingly. The unconcern for home-team suffering The lack of anything resembling responsible leadership or stewardship The virulent tribal hatred The cynical money trail - none of it is unique to the Arab-Israeli conflict. And most Western pundits can't get past their own upbringing. Their naive assumption that "they want what we want" hamstrings these articles, and blinds them to the obvious conclusion that Muslims do not value and want what Westerners do. They are not "rational actors" as we Westerners conceive it. This is true of almost all Western pontification aboit the Muslim world. "They want what we want" is a fallacy attributed to many things, but war may be the most prominent. Remember Michael Moore's post 9-11 screed explaining to Muslim terrorists that New York was the wrong target because it hadn't voted for Bush? It was very revealing of the inner workings of his mind.
Whenever I get confused about this issue, I just remember who it is that inevitably initiates the next round of hostilities.
It would seem that, by some weird coincidence, we suddenly have a worldwide spate of spontaneous attacks upon individual Jews in public, in broad daylight. It's almost like the BLM activities last year, spontaneous riots in select cities. Isn't anybody curious about how these things become so well-synchronized? And is this the new war strategy by the Left? Say or do something wrong, corrupt, and outrageous; craft a power-gathering solution, put it in place; make the strategic political advances; and then later, when the truth finally outs, quietly agree that, yes, it was true all along - but without ceding the advances. That's your signal that the next outrageous try-on is coming your way. Do this in a supportive media environment and your political opposition spends its time and energy trying to get basic facts aired. I read a recent article at an Israeli website that discussed some Israelis visiting General Giap, the architect of North Vietnam's successful takeover of the south. He pointed out that a lot of Palestinians also visited him. The Palestinians assumed that as the North Vietnamese drove out the French and then the Americans, and as the Algerians drove out the French, the Palestinians will eventually be successful in driving out the Jews.
General Giap told the Israelis that he always told the Palestinians that was a mistaken analogy. Americans and French had a home to go to. Israeli Jews do not. The link I used was from the top of the page.
Hamas’s forever war against Israel has a glitch, and it isn’t Iron Dome. Why Hamas promises another war soon, and another and another. And why it won’t work So about 20% of the excess deaths are attributable to the factors studied (drug OD being the largest), before the second wave. I have not seen any other plausible nominees for excess deaths other than Covid. The quick subtraction tells us that there must therefore have been [i]more[/] Covid deaths than officially attributed. Yet the article before states that hospitals overcounted Covid.
I wrote fourteen months ago that there would be counting errors in both directions, as some deaths would be falsely attributed to Covid without sufficient evidence, while some deaths would be falsely attributed to something else (pneumonia, heart failure) because a Covid test was lacking. Once you are dead they usually don't go back and test you. I don't think I took a guess at the time which type of error would be more common. It is now clear that there has been an overall undercount of Covid deaths, as there is no other known explanation for all those dead bodies. Rather than the 600,000 official total, something above 700,000 is more likely. Any of the usual MF commenters on this topic want to admit you were one of the ones insisting a year ago this was equivalent to a bad flu season? I remember who a couple of you are. Sorry AVI.
It's pointless to restart these tedious debates. We'll just have to agree to disagree on the COVID panic and subsequent disaster. I didn't restart it. And you just pulled the low tactic of "Okay let's stop arguing, and here's two more punches on my way out." Panic? Disaster? Those are not neutral terms.
Stand up and fight fair. I think I just recited some facts, without a lot of opinion involved. I guess facts are hard for people who want something else to be true. Have you seen the Dr. Mike Yeadon interview by Planet Lockdown? I found the interview at FreeNorthCarolina blog last Friday and it is available on several other sites. Watch at least the last half hour. He brings up the fact that their were MORE excess deaths in 2017 than the excess deaths from the Covid period. There wasn't Covid that year so blaming excess deaths on Covid should not be done especially considering that cause of death statistics was changed in March of a year ago without public knowledge and the PCR test is notoriously inaccurate. I trust absolutely nothing coming from the CDC, NIH, Fauci, or any of the politicians pushing the lockdown. The lockdown was just another iteration of Russia, Russia, Russia. The democrats and China needed Trump out. Tariffs were hurting China, the Russia hoax was uncovered, Hunter was a target in the Ukraine and China scandal and they needed lockdown for mail in cheating.
indyjonesouthere: He brings up the fact that their were MORE excess deaths in 2017
The study concerned excess deaths in the U.S. when compared to large European countries. Excess deaths due to COVID-19 in the U.S. are further in excess of that; that is, they are in excess of what would otherwise be expected in the U.S. with its already adverse mortality conditions. See Preston & Vierboom, Excess mortality in the United States in the 21st century, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 2021. He states that there were more excess deaths in the US in 2017 than in 2020. If Covid was responsible for 2020 what was responsible for 2017 excess deaths? Why have they changed the cause of death rules to focus on Covid other than to inflate Covid deaths. Why do they keep changing the PCR threshold other than to inflate Covid and cover for "vaccine" positive tests. George Carlin was right...he trusts nothing that government or media says. The only reason to keep changing the rules is to obfuscate truth and look how many states ignored their legislatures and changed voting rules to promote the lockdown cheat. This is just a russia, russia, russia continuing saga.
indyjonesouthere: He states that there were more excess deaths in the US in 2017 than in 2020.
The term "excess" refers to a baseline, in this case, to deaths in large European countries. The baseline for excess deaths due to COVID-19 in the U.S. is the average deaths over time (adjusted for demographics). Death rates in the U.S. during 2017 were about average for the U.S., though higher than in large European countries. This graph shows the U.S. death rate through August 2020 — then it got worse: https://static.scientificamerican.com/sciam/assets/Image/2020/saw100820CovidDeaths31_d.png

I would suggest that at least some of these "excess deaths" could be attributable to the flu. I mean, it seems a little odd that masks and social distancing virtually eliminated the flu entirely but did so little against the coronavirus.
It was a plausible theory. It's been tried. There's no evidence for it.
Jerryskids: I would suggest that at least some of these "excess deaths" could be attributable to the flu.
Seasonal flu deaths aren't sufficient to account for the large numbers of excess deaths. Testing shows that seasonal flu is negligible this year (which demonstrates the value of social measures to control respiratory illness). The "excess deaths" are irrelevant, as the number of them is pretty low.
And without knowing the true cause of deaths of the hundreds of thousands who have incorrectly been attributed to covid in the US alone to keep the fear of a lethal pandemic alive, we'll never be able to know the reality of what categories were over- and underrepresented in the people who died over the last year or more. Yes, there was a pandemic. And to a degree there still is one. But the pathogen isn't nearly as bad as it's been trumped up to be based largely on Chinese propaganda and leftist politicians seeing opportunities to greatly expand their powers over a fearful population. And who knows, maybe in the very beginning a relatively large percentage of those infected really did die from it, in part because of lacking knowledge on how to treat them (though whether those should be listed as having died from covid or having died from medical errors while attempting to treat covid is up for debate). But that's gone down a lot. And especially last winter, many people with flu were incorrectly classified as having covid instead, which screwed up both the covid and flu statistics badly. Whether this was deliberate or due to the oversensitivity of the pcr tests for covid remains to be seen, probably a bit of both. I've had covid, had it back when the WHO and national health authorities still said that it was impossible to contract covid outside of China and Italy (and thus I'm not counted in the official statistics as I was refused testing based on me not having been to those countries). It's no flu, but it's not the indiscriminate killer you want people to believe it is. And for people with milder symptoms than mine, it's fully understandable that they think they just have a pretty persistent flu attack. At the lower end of the scale that's just what it feels like. If I'd not have had a month of killer headaches and being constantly winded after even walking down the stairs to go to the toilet or get a drink I'd probably have believed the same. Same with my sister, who had it twice (and was, due to her job, tested both times), and her teenage son who contracted it at school (despite official guidelines saying teens can't contract covid, that's still the official mantra here). We're all ok now, I've had my vaccine and that too didn't kill me despite all the scare mongering. JTW: The "excess deaths" are irrelevant, as the number of them is pretty low.
Excess deaths are on the order of 600,000 in the U.S. Hospitalizations are much higher, and many survivors suffer long-term effects. In reply to “You are not what you eat”.
Points regarding the annoyance of proselytizing are Well taken! However, the author is misguided on metabolism & physiology. https://nutrita.app/article/keto-diet-and-stress-hormones/ . Traditional dieting (chronic caloric restriction) is both ineffective and unhealthy. Ketogenic diets can release stress hormones for a transitory period of time referred to as the “Keto Flu”. High performance athletes may fall short of their personal bests for as long as six months - but then exceed them because their bodies have become efficient to ketosis. An inconvenient truth remains unassailable. Human evolution did not occur in conditions described as a “Standard North American Diet”. A certain fast track to disease and early death would be to hold to current convention coupled to packaged food. A good place to start - unburdened by proselytizing: https://peterattiamd.com/my-nutritional-framework/ " New York’s prospective teachers will no longer have to pass controversial literacy exam"
When I was in college the teacher education majors were notorious fo being the bumbest kids on campus. We made jokes about them. We thought it was funny that people of such modest intelectual ability wanted to teach others. We were sure that wouldn't work out well. It hasn't. Yeah. When I was in (a smallish, private) college '49-'53, the very visible route was STEM > quasi-rigorous social sciences > psychology -> education (teacher training).
The current purpose of education is "woke propaganda". Literacy tests are no longer useful.
QUOTE: When I was in college the teacher education majors were notorious fo (sic) being the bumbest (sic) kids on campus. We made jokes about them. We thought it was funny that people of such modest intelectual (sic) ability wanted to teach others. The days of most female college grads being channeled into nursing and teaching are over. My 9th grade math teacher was a Phi Beta Kappa graduate from a Big 10 school. The school's Latin teacher had an Ivy League Ph.D. (1930s) At the time, it was difficult for women to get college teaching positions. Today, bright women have many more options beyond teaching or nursing. As a result, the intellectual level of schoolteachers is lower than it was several generations ago. Nonetheless. schoolteachers are not as dumb as you believe. ETS Improving Teacher Quality in a Changing Policy Landscape Improvements in the Teaching Pool informs us that beginning teachers who passed the Praxis tests for teacher certification had average SAT scores of 521-Math and 531-Verbal. (Figure 15 on page 20 and Figure 13 on page 18) This compares with average SATs for college graduates of 543-Verbal and 542-Math. Below average, but not by a lot Beginning teachers certified for Elementary Ed, Special Ed, and Phys Ed teachers have SAT scores below the SAT scores for college graduates for both SAT-Verbal and SAT-Math. Beginning teachers certified for high school academic subjects score above average on the SAT section that best pertains to their certification. Average Verbal SAT by Certification Area Art& Music 550 Math 551 Social Studies 555 Foreign Language 555 Science 560 English 575 College Grads 543 Average Math SAT by Certification Area Science 560 Mathematics 590 College Grads 542 (These are eyeball estimates off bar graphs) I'd estimate Elementary Ed certifications as 510-Verbal and 505- Math Phys Ed scores are way low, but no one ever expected gym teachers to be bright. (These are eyeball estimates off bar graphs, so they could be more accurate.) I'd add that while being bright is an asset for being a teacher, it is a necessary but not sufficient attribute for being a successful teacher. I speak from experience. Re: The Democrat’s Scientific Racism
So Democrats are dredging up scientific racism again like they did during Jim Crow. The more things change, the more they stay the same. The exam would be fine if they only offered it in Ebonics. Or Spanish!!!

QUOTE: The European Union (EU) has ruled that the larval stage of the Tenebrio molitor beetle, the mealworm, is safe for people to eat and it will shortly be on the market as a “novel food”. EU researchers said that the worms, eaten whole or in powder form, are protein-rich, while the UN Food and Agriculture Organization said that edible insects “contain high-quality protein, vitamins and amino acids for humans”. According to the World Economic Forum’s Meat: The Future report, keeping up with the demand for animal-derived protein could put meeting the [Sustainable Development Goals] and Paris Climate Agreement targets in jeopardy. https://moonbattery.com/world-economic-forum-let-them-eat-larvae/ All they have to do is come up with a cute sounding pseudonym for them (like Mediterranean Ground-Meat), and they'll be popping up in our food everywhere. It's all just Sea Bass.

Can America Be America When Jews Are Beaten in the Streets?
I have a hard time feeling sorry for the Jews. They are simply getting what they overwhelming support and vote for. Stop voting leftist and your beatings will stop. Pretty simple. Re: Ace of Spades; Karen’s won’t take their masks off.
QUOTE: Now that the reins of government have been taken by a president and a party that, whatever you think of their policy positions, at least appear united in their belief that mass death is a bad thing... -Dana Stevens Which party does the Governor of New York belong to? He that fead seniors into nursing homes to languish and die, all because he didn’t want to utilize the USS Comfort; Orange Man Bad. Two democrat governors, that I know of, signed off on legislation allowing for the death of the born, because mom decided it would be inconvenient for her to raise an imperfect child. The New York congress gave him a standing ovation upon signing, and lit their skyline that evening in celebration of the new law. Which party is responsible for 62 million deaths since 1973? Which party will go to the ends of the earth to insure the mass slaughter of the unborn can continue with no restrictions? Which party turned a blind eye to the mass slaughter of 100’s of millions in Russia and China - while vilifying anti-communists? Which party never has a bad word to say about America’s enemies - enemies that treat their citizens as chattel? Which party would happily stand by while Israel is wiped away? Which party controls the rains of power in every major American city, with the highest murder rates? Just as long as the ‘right’ people are killed, Miss Stevens? There is so much more to say about the policies of the democrats. Policies that inevitably lead to misery and mass starvation. By their own admission they believe that the earth is over populated. The world would be so much better if there are fewer people polluting precious Gaia. On May 24, 1941, the German battleship Bismarck sank the British battle cruiser HMS Hood in the North Atlantic, killing all but three of the 1,418 men on board.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cFOAG0wfBw New pogroms. As my wife has long maintained, you can judge the worth of a country by how it treats its women and its Jewish population. The anti-Semites will only be encouraged if we do not stop this new fascism by so-called anti-fascist organizations and the new black liberation masquerading as BLM.
Seemingly true, but how do you blame the country when 70% of the Jews living there vote for their own destruction?
Pretty clear that putting your kids in public school, especially the NYFC schools, is child abuse.
Transgender Regret Is So Prevalent That Even the Mainstream Media Is Recognizing It Now

Seriously, does spelling intellectual wrong invalidate your comment? I blame the spell checker.
When you make three spelling errors in the process of calling a group of people the dumbest on campus, you don't exactly support your case. I am reminded of a tweet cited in [IIRC] Instapundit: "Your an idiot." I do hope you are able to see the grammatical error there. As I have already pointed out, numbers readily invalidate your case. Your spelling was just one example of the nonsense embedded in your comment. The mask mandate ended today in my state, but nothing has changed. Everywhere I went, people were still wearing masks. Stores still had their big signs out front mandating masks. I asked at one store and the clerk simply said, "we made the decision to keep requiring masks."
This is ridiculous. No offence meant, but you live in the wrong state. In the South, people have been going maskless for months. We're still rebels.
You might have been taken in by that headline about New York State dropping the teacher literacy exam - the exam doesn't have to do with the teacher's literacy, it has to do with the teacher's ability to teach literacy and to recognize learning disabilities that might affect literacy. (Excuse me, I mean "educator" of course.) I found a sample of a practice test online (just do a search for "new york state teacher literacy exam") and it is - as you should suspect - full of buzzwords and jargon and the latest cant on "methodologies of transmitting symbolic language skills" and other assorted crapola. The test seems to be primarily aimed at weeding out the uninitiated clerisy from the priesthood via the old tried-and-true use of shibboleths. If you can understand what the heck they're even talking about, congratulations, you're an "educator"!
