We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

I have no problem inadvertently killing people in any other ways, but covid is special. It’s the only sickness in history that no one should ever have to catch, or g-d forbid, die of. If I thought anyone ever even got a “case” of it because of me I could never live with myself! MASKS FOREVER!

Wait Lori Lightfoot is still in office? I thought she was resigning...there was some sordid story about an extra-marital affair about a month ago, with emotional confrontations and police involvement, in a city-paid hotel.
Now I see HerOnner sez these were just unfounded rumors. "Good morning from my mansion in Sauganash...Seriously, though—our city doesn’t have any time for homophobic, racist and misogynistic rumors, today or any day."
Now I didn't know that catching someone cheating on their marriage vows was homophobic, or racist, or misogynistic. But.....Funnily enough this story wasn't widely reported and the rumor seems to have died almost immediately, as all Fake News does. Oh, Wait. Wait a minute.....

This week, a Central American news team presented their skin credentials and requested and was granted an interview with the self-declared racist Mayor. They asked that she drop her newly-announced racial preferences for reporters, and were told this was refused. The news team then declined the invitation for an interview. This wasn't widely reported either, isn't that interesting? Kudos to the news team though, a classy thing to do.

So many Chicago stories are lost and/or under reported, more so with the demise of Second City Cop. Here I am reading MF for details I'll never find in the Sun Times, Trib, or any local radio/TV web-site.

Never heard about the Police confrontation at a city-paid hotel/love-nest. Missed the Central American news team story entirely. And something like only a third of my friends know the Mayor has moved ...

And I LOOK actively for Chicago stories and read some fairly good sites, including WirePoints and the Contrarian.

Chicago truly is a mess.

Why I still wear a mask I was in our local Wal-Mart just now. The "masks required" signs are gone and almost nobody was wearing one. I commented to one young lady, "Isn't it great to see smiles again?" She agreed and gave me a big smile. I really missed smiles.

It's a good enough article, though very wordy and meandering off topic.

The bottom line for the decline of horse racing is all the competing forms of gambling.

Nebraska used to have a vibrant horse racing industry. Then Council Bluffs put in a casino and Kansas City followed suit. Just like that, horse racing in Nebraska was dead.

It's just hard for horse racing to compete in the market for the gamblers' dollars. The action is slower than a casino and it takes some skill to be successful betting the horses.

It's the market killing horse racing, not animal rights groups or regulators.

IN addition of the much higher overhead of keeping the horses, there's the speed involved. A Blackjack dealer is expected to throw 45-50 hands per hour; a slot machine can be up to 20 pulls a minute. One race every 17-35 minutes can't compete with the efficiency of vacuuming a wallet.

I don’t think they are no ways tired of woke nonsense. I think they are just getting started. For me, I rather enjoy people asking for help; I’ll gladly do what I can. It must be my White privilege.

Two things are different in this round of the "Cycle of Violence" here in Israel:

1. Israeli Arabs have taken to the streets, conducting lynches and BLM style pogroms in major cities in coastal Israel. This is the major source of worry here.

This shreds the illusion that the bennies of democracy would lead these folks to eschew the militant Arab nationalism all around them due to their "enlightened self interest". Our efforts for peace and our attempts to spare innocent lives have been interpreted as weakness... They are going with what they perceive as "the strong horse". Golly! I guess all cultures really aren't alike.

2. The Israelis are hastening to NOT assure anyone that this will be limited or over soon. Bibi has successfully rope-a-doped Biden and they are speaking much more forcefully than in previous cycles about seeing this through.

It should be noted that as the Palis have revealed their true colors, fewer European officials are advocating for them. The anti-Israel sentiment there is coming from NGOs and media.

In fact much of the Arab world is rooting for Israel as they are more threatened by the Iran/Pali axis than by Israel. This was the dynamic that led to the rapprochement of the Abraham Accords.

Several reasons are offered here:

1. Increasing post-modern erosion of Israeli society - including "diversity" and LGBT initiatives in the schools and the army - may have convinced them that Israel is sufficiently decadent to be vanquished.

2. The examples of BLM and the EuroMuslim conquest.

3. The recent political quagmire in Israel - which had religious and nationalist parties cynically offering to form a coalition with the radical, terror-supporting, Arab nationalist faction (as opposed to the moderate Israeli Arab leaders that the larger Israeli parties include in their slates).

This is taboo, touching the third rail of Israeli politics, and another indication of Jewish weakness and lack of ideals to Arab eyes. In fact one of these Israeli politicians originally came from the very idealistic religious Zionist camp.

4. The realization that nothing will ever come of the Palestinian Authority - which recently canceled elections again. After internationally monitored elections in the early years of the PA, a generation of Palis has now grown to adulthood without elections in a typically corrupt Arab state. So Hamas looks like the better deal - or at least "the strong horse".

It wouldn't even occur to me to say anything but "No, but what do you want, maybe I can help".

But then I help little old ladies get heavy things into their cart, and help them reach the stuff up high, without being asked - because someday I might just be a little old lady transvestite myself.
