Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Progressive Marxists have no problem with enjoying the fruits of their success (just ask Bernie Sanders). Success comes from each according to his ability, to each according to his need.
You didn't think a little fear of hypocrisy was going to override motivations, did you? It's not hypocrisy, it's the natural order of things. "Can Fonts be racist".
They damn sure can. Every thing is racist. If you like vanilla Ice cream... If you wear white clothes... Everything! You are... Organ meats are disgusting and gross, so I don’t care if they’re healthy.
Especially liver — why on Earth would anyone want to eat what is essentially a filter for toxins? Ma! Jeffy thinks the liver is gross! Can I have his helping?
The link piqued my interest, so I looked up a few recipes. Liver and bacon pate, liver and onions meatballs (beef to liver ratio 4:1), and Italian-style spaghetti with a red liver sauce. Now I gotta check out the prices on liver, 'cause steak is getting to be a bit dear. You can have my serving too. I’m sure there are worse smells than that of liver being cooked, but I can’t remember what they are.
I too remember that horrible smell when my mother or father was cooking liver and onions. As a child when I opened the door to go into the house and smelled that I would just about lose my lunch. The kids never ate it though, nor my mother. Living in a semi rural area there is a local restaurant that lists liver and onions as one of their specialties. Gag!!!!!
I heard the same story from my wife the first time I mentioned cooking some leg of lamb--"My mother cooked lamb and it stunk up the whole house, and tasted lousy." I roasted a leg on the gas grill (jeez, what a putz I was then!), alongside some beef fajitas. My wife took one whiff and said "That smells delicious, cut me off a little piece." And then "Cut me off a big slice."
It ain't the meat that's stinky, it's the way it's prepared. But if you're organ meat averse, you won't learn how. As DJT would say, "Sad." Kidneys cooking. Even worse than liver. Much.
But nothing beats a steak and kidney pud with lots of onions and mushrooms.

I buy a tub of chicken liver and a pound of bacon. Place 2-4 livers and 1-2 pieces of bacon in a baggy. Freeze them all and when I cook dinner I grab one and cook it up as a pre-dinner snack. If other family members don't that's a plus.
When I was a kid, chicken livers dusted with flour and fried with bacon in the fat was a staple of the our menu. Apparently I've been immunized against the bad effects of cholesterol and saturated fats since I'm still alive.
That was it for organ meats in my house. My wife's grandmother, though, was said to be fond of kidneys-- I don't know her preferred species. My wife and her sister would stay outside the house until the smell (you can imagine) dissipated. I to dreaded the nights our parents insisted that liver and onions was the main dish. Had to “at least have a little bit”. I found it acceptable as long as there was a full bottle of ketchup to drown it in. By age 21 or 22 I began to order L&O from restaurant menus. Today I eat L&O heartily when the chance arises. No ketchup or sauce of any type required. Exception to that would be the gravy made from the liver drippings. Funny how I grew out of my persnickety ways just as my parents predicted I would.
Ha, it’s a comfort food to me. Brings back good memories of the fine meals and conversations my parents shared with my brother and I during our early life. Data point: half of my 4 grown children appreciate variety meats (offal) today and the other 2 ... notsomuch. :- ) Ahhhh to lead the sheltered life that causes one to be traumatized by food smells.
The Mysterious Fiery Ghost Ship of Northumberland Strait
QUOTE: What has come to be known as The Ghost Ship of Northumberland Strait has been allegedly sighted in the strait for centuries, usually appearing as a three or four-masted schooner with sails of pure white, which materialized out of thin air. There are very often ghostly crew members and dogs seen on the decks, but the most startling aspect of the ghost ship is its tendency to suddenly and spectacularly burst into flame. Sometimes this blaze will cover the entire vessel, while at other times it engulfs only the sails, and the spectral crew is said to show no reaction at all to this fiery state. The ship is usually described as being incredibly clear and realistic looking, to the point that it can be mistaken for an actual ship on fire, its ghostly identity only betrayed when it disappears into thin air. https://mysteriousuniverse.org/2021/04/the-mysterious-fiery-ghost-ship-of-northumberland-strait/ Every time I see more of the outrageous leftist nonsense that the Biden Administration is pushing, I try to remind myself that soon enough the GOP will be back in charge of Congress and they can repeal this nonsense the same way they repealed Obamacare. I get all warm and fuzzy just thinking about it.
Yeah.
We're losing big time and are barely putting up a defense. If you put up too much of a defense, you get accused of being just like the left. Most people go along to get along. Don't rock the boat of USS Comfortable to hard, we don't want to bail.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THMwV7GxmEc It’s Not Okay For Corporations To Take Away Our Freedom Just Because They’re Not Government
QUOTE: Other corporations began to pile pressure on Georgia lawmakers to reverse course while intimidating politicians in others from pursuing the same reforms. Georgia-based companies Coca-Cola, Aflac Insurance, and Delta Air Lines released statements condemning the new rules lied about in the press as congressional Democrats ram through the largest federal takeover of elections in recent memory. News of Saturday’s call shows the episode likely to repeat in other states where corporate conglomerates are prepared to launch a campaign against voting integrity. If this works, the pressure on voting laws will be tomorrow’s pressure on gun laws, and next on immigration laws, abortion laws, and education laws. Corporations, which for decades lobbied merely on issues pertinent to their financial interests, have now begun to capitalize on aggressive wokeism. Soon, woke corporate boardrooms will be weighing in on every facet of American life. That’s the existential threat to American liberty flying under the radar. https://thefederalist.com/2021/04/12/its-not-okay-for-corporations-to-take-away-our-freedom-just-because-theyre-not-government/ Because the government telling companies (why are corporations always the Evil Ones, why not LLCs or LPs?) what they can say or advocate for is clearly the Bestest Possible Thing.
What could possibly go wrong? Great place if you are so inclined. Haven't been there in awhile but they have some good stuff.
https://ottomanelli.com/product-category/exotic-meats/ Another, Clearer Take on the Chauvin Trial
QUOTE: alternative cause of death other than Chauvin’s knee You people just don't get it. Chauvin is going to be convicted because juries, and especially this jury at this place and time, are not rational, and have the opposite bias as the author of the Am.Thinker article. They are going to be given jury instructions that mean something like this: even if Floyd was going to die from the OD, if Chauvin hastened that death, Chauvin is guilty if kneeling on him neck was one of several substantial causes. So it's either, "he was going to die anyway (which is the tone of the Am.Thinker article) so there's no homicide" and Chauvin is acquitted, or "Chauvin's knee was a factor in his death" and Chauvin is guilty. The issue is how big a factor in Floyd's death, and does anyone here think that jury will give Chauvin the benefit of the doubt? Pirate treasure. So the sanctimonious New Englanders were involved not only in the slave trade but also piracy. Morality in money takes a while to catch up.
Ah following a favorite prejudice and changing the topic to what you like better.
I grew up in New England and went to college in the South. Ask me about sanctimoniousness, please. Ask me twice. Most of the slave ships were Dutch and English. Most of the New England ships were whalers. More English and European slaves were taken from their homes and brought to Northern Africa than African slaves were brought to America.
