Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Four and twenty Blackbirds


Flocks of Blackirds are passing through right now. Common Grackles (they used to be called Purple Grackles), mixed with some Red-Wings and Cowbirds.


They all enjoy my birdseed.

What brand of wild bird seed do you feed them, Bird Dog? Our birds prefer the Pennington Classic.

If there's one in your area, I can recommend the Wild Birds Unlimited stores. I've used them in Wisconsin, Illinois and briefly in Colorado over 20 years and found most of the owners knowledgable and smart. We've shifted away from loose feed and towards seed and nut cylinders. The decreased spillage cuts down on rodents and pigeons. Tho nothing's perfect. And grackles I don't need. Too many noisy blackbirds as it is. Safflower deters them.
