We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Dear Kristi Noem: GOP Voters Are Done Supporting Politicians Who Turn On Their Interests
Politicians reversing themselves on key culturally conservative issues, or falling in the face of leftist corporate pressure, is not in itself unusual. The GOP has been bedeviled by this for years. While serving as governor of Indiana, Donald Trump Vice President Mike Pence backtracked on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act after pressure from business groups, including the NCAA. While there was general harumphing around conservatism, the move turned into little more than a speedbump in his continued political rise.
But this is not the situation in which Noem now finds herself. Rather than the usual eye-rolling and sighs about spinelessness, the condemnation of Noem has been sweeping, national, and sustained. Few on the right have come out to defend her actions. Once considered a rising star in the GOP, Noem’s political future is now less certain.
Noem has sold out to our ideological foes. If she does it once, she'll do it again.
Disappointing. She seemed to have the right attitude and spirit to do her job according to the wishes of her constituents. Maybe people who occupy positions in government are simply self-serving narcissistic psychopaths, and she's no different.
Shipwreckedcrew over at Red State and TechnoFog have interesting takes on this. I was surprised at the hits on Kristi Noem and I figure these are the first jostlings of the 2022 and 2024 races - much as Cuomo is getting beat up. Or should I say, 'was', because things are awfully quiet in the Evil Cuomo persecution department suddenly - so maybe the deal has been cut.
Anyway, these two writers aver that the bill is terrible legislation, very poorly written, and that Noem's changes are not really good ones. What isn't mentioned, is that males masquerading as females already don't compete at the collegiate level in that state. Since the conservative coverage of this issue with Noem seems to be lining up along certain Clubhouse lines, I am suspicious that we are seeing the Psuedo-Republican Establishment up to its old ridiculous tricks, squandering political capital on inter-league fights.
I'll tell you what I think: You want to identify as female and beat the girls at sports? Go right ahead. Proceed while we ignore you. Then at the end, we'll give the prize to the winning girl and you can keep identifying as a girl, and identify as the winner, too! Call it a win-win solution!
The atmosphere in the military has become toxic. I would no longer suggest the military as an alternative to white males. If you are already in the military I would suggest preparing to leave for employment that might value your skills.
My message for officers is slightly different. Officers have the option to leave the service at will. If you have integrity and can understand what is going on you should resign your commission rather than remain and be a party to tis travesty.
White, heterosexual, Christian males need not apply and will be rejected if attempting to do so.

It keeps getting worse... this character doesn't even have ANY military history, and he's going to help "diversify" the Special Forces? US Special Forces announce 1st-ever diversity and inclusion officer
re Via American Exodus - Don’t wait for the oligarchy to let you in. Just walk away.
This is a long read, but it is quite good.
It's a very good read but I often find my thinking as not quite parallel to Codevilla's. I'm not prepared to walk away from what is already mine. It's down to me, and others like me, to remind our putative leaders that they do not possess what they purport to lead, and that their sole contribution is one of voluntary service, not exercise of ownership rights.
The American Exodus author is whistling past the graveyard. The personal life is dead, Comrade. Dr. Zhivago

Does anyone remember the halcyon days of dissent being the highest form of patriotism? It seems like just yesterday.
Now the US Navy has political commissars aboard ships? Strange to think I used to sail the seas, at the height of the Cold War, the US Navy being the projection of the free world, reading books about this very animal aboard the communist ships. How we detested the communist. What a morale boost it was, when a Soviet ship would be allowed to sail within sight and we could all ‘man the rails’ to give them the finger!
If Deficits Don't Matter, Why Bother with Taxes?
The money is of secondary importance. It's all about control, and the power that comes from it.
First the caveat. I'm speaking personal opinion. I attended DoD mandated "extremism" training. I'll just say it was not nearly as bad as expected (or could have been), but far worse than it needed to be. It was completely unnecessary and at variance with truth. We gave honest feedback regarding the context of the material (what about last summer, does that not matter?). I have no idea what, if any, impact our feedback will have.
