Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Re: Venezuela Turns to Privatization After Being Bankrupted by Socialism
Hello America. It's a start but, without the rule of law, the state will eventually take what was privatized by force. Which is how a lot of the Venezuelan fiasco was created.
What they need the most is oil and gas expertise and financial investment, but they're not going to get it. There is not a single major oil and gas producer or service company that has not been screwed over by Venezuela and had their property and investments seized. Their promises to abide by future contracts will carry the same reciprocal trust as their currency does at the moment.
Baby Boomers: Paglia denies that Post Modernism is an offshoot of the radical 60s counter culture.
This Peterson and Paglia discussion is from 2017 but always worth a look: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v-hIVnmUdXM The 60's counterculture was adept at breaking all the rules. With few rules it isn't difficult to see post modernism thrilled to have an open field run at re-establishing their own rules. Portland, Seattle, Minneapolis, San Francisco, in fact most any university reflects the rules of chaos that became the only rules. Rachael Dozel, Bruce Jenner, and any given Cuomo or Biden will show you can be anything you want without a common culture.
"The Grand Illusion of free elections"
Can the citizens in any country know/realize that their country is being taken from them in a secret conspiracy? There are signs but if all the leaders and shakers are in on the conspiracy and all deny it who do you believe? After all no one would really do that, right? Yes there are historical examples of it but that was in lesser cultures not ours. Is it really happening?? I think if we don't get another Trump and if less than 50% of the citizens wake up then our constitution is toast. Re: Preferred Adjectives
I always laugh when I see that LGTBQ propaganda. It's designed to make people think that words are defined by otherpeople. So if we are denied the right to define the words which we use, then we'll eventually lose the right to define ourselves. And it all started by making the word "nigger" illegal. Once a single word becomes illegal, the rest will follow; it's death by a thousand cuts. You can expect to see a thousand illegal words in the future, and they'll go straight into your police file, if you foolishly exercise your freedom of speech. So don't do it! One of the primary complaints of blacks is that people are always calling them stupid. So they've come up with a new set of preferred adjectives: Drooling Sea Monkey, Melanin Mongoloid, and Professional Ceiling Observer. And they really hate Ikea, which is a racist company. https://drive.google.com/file/d/144U-DWXMfgPP-a9kKNWTqA7GYnNQCFe9/view?usp=sharing re Good things about modern farming methods
Thanks to modern agriculture we have the cheapest, the safest, the most abundant, and the most variety that there has ever been in world history. Credit must also be given to capitalism. Without competition and free markets, none of this would have ever happened. Enjoy it and appreciate it. The Left would like to destroy it. “We are in our 50s and have no real retirement savings. It's a bit too late to re-read Aesop's fable of the Grasshopper and the Ant. Try searching the internet for inexpensive recipes incorporating cat food. Seriously, they have not only to continue working, but drastically restructure their lifestyle to bring their expenses well below their income-- and then invest the surplus. And of course, avoid taking on any debt.
Unfortunately, people who live above their means tend to spend their income on useless junk, vacations, status signalling, etc., that can't be monetized later. They have 20 more years to build up retirement. I'm still working. They will have to live a more modest life than they might want, but that's okay. And chances are good at least one will die before retirement.
Maryland teachers’ unions still not accepting the offer they asked for: Cooooooool! They're shooting their own feet! Aim higher. teach!
The only thing that can save education is spending vouchers given to the parents rather than directly funding the institutions. Public schools no longer view parents and students as the client. Government is the client with which to deal.
Wow!

How much blame do the baby boomers deserve?" It really pisses me off when they say boomers caused all the crap going on today. I am a boomer and I can tell you I didn't do any of the stuff those that actually were trouble back then have caused. To have so many of them in government, embalmed John Kerry for example needed to have been forced out decades ago. The damn Dems. have pushed those with twisted ideas and values up the ladder. How many of them are in high positions in universities now or have been in the past. Why are the kids so screwed up now, people with no morals pushing them against our culture and norms. Some boomers maybe, but certainly not all by any means as the trouble makers of the past got into positions to cause a lot of damage.
Stakeholders = Lobbying groups. That has been true since I first heard the term in the 80s. It is good you brought it up with such clarity.
RE: no retirement funds in our 50s...
A simplistic article. 1. Not everyone had a gaggle of healthy kids back in the day. And they didn't all stick around. 2. I live in an Orthodox Jewish community that still has large well-connected families and commmunity ethos. Elder care is most definitely a burden on the children, not a neglible expense as described. Typically it falls on only some of the children. 3. The real difference is that people saved their own money. 4. And the truth is that many did die in poverty - Social Decurity is a scam but it was promoted by addressing a very real situation. |
