Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Solar panels? Where are they made, won't they ultimately be made in China or won't the upstream supply chain start there?
Will it be the same ole BS, such that American assembled is passed off as American made? "The majority of photovoltaic solar panels sold in the United States aren’t actually made in the US. In the past few months, however, several Asian solar companies, most notably those in China, have begun moving operations and manufacturing solar panels in America." quote from Solar Reviews “Learn to code” and “build solar panels” is the twenty first century versions of “let them eat cake.”
..."As members of an intellectual community, our end is to engage critically with the things of the world so as to understand and appreciate them. Given that this is our end, we will, over time and by pursuing that end, fall into habits of giving reasons and listening to criticism, for we see that these habits serve our ends. Indeed, we see that failing to give reasons or to listen to criticism will prevent us from attaining our ends. The rule that requires us to give reasons is, then, like a rule requiring us to savor our food."
But we do not share a common end - it is not 'given'. And. rather than provide 'reasons' or indulge criticism, the application of institutional power to enforce silence and uphold the tyranny of conformance, is the proof of that. And using the word 'equity' is a way of implying a pending remedy, description to follow for payment. > John Kerry says out-of-work oil/gas workers should be grateful to Joe Biden for giving them ‘better choices’ like building solar panels
Welders sufficiently skilled and certified for pipeline work are "lucky" to that there may be some panel install jobs around? He might as well snark about learning to code. They don't understand how ANYTHING works outside of DC. Skilled welders? Machinists? Hell, even programmers - they see it as easy to 'learn to code and make big bucks' - when the talent, mindset and focus needed to BE a good programmer is rare indeed.
And we're seeing that to be a politician all you need is the ability to get elected, and attract money. Management talent is apparently a liability, as far as they're concerned. Re: DC statehood (and impeachment 2.0, for that matter)
Is Rand Paul the only guy in DC who reads the Constitution? I was admittedly a little hyperbolic here. I think most of the Republicans read and can comprehend the Constitution. Paul just seemed to be the senator who most prominently referenced it.
I understand how it was said, I just wanted to express my support for my state senator who people are trying to railroad out of a job. He simply expressed what was a legal move and they can't stand it. His wealthy donors have already covered their asses and said they won't back him any more. He stands up for the Constitution and his people.
The real shame is that there appear to not have been any Jews who dared to save the Goyim from their Messiahs - Lenin and Stalin!!!
"China Needs A Hundred Bombers..."
No! The only need one anti-ship missile and they have hundreds of them. While the carrier group is still very powerful and a huge threat to any enemy on the ocean or the land it has become a sitting duck to high tech weapons. Drone Swarms Are Getting Too Fast For Humans To Fight, U.S. General Warns
Someday this will be the threat to carriers. That is, if cruise missiles aren't already a big enough threat. https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidhambling/2021/01/27/drone-swarms-are-getting-too-fast-for-humans-too-fight-us-general-warns/?sh=15b8ec4b372c Got my covid shot last night at the local fairgrounds. Big crowds, a hundred or more staff including national guard. It was amazingly efficient and everyone was helpful and pleasant. They even gave me an appointment for the second shot.
Here in Abu Dhabi, the only vaccine available is the Sinopharm old-style version. They pushed it out to government employees as Phase III trials but there is now zero transparency on the efficacy or the side effects. The Chinese run the testing labs too, at least the big one by the airport. Pfizer and Moderna are not available although they claim residents of the Emirate of Dubai (different sheik) will eventually be able to get Pfizer.
If you aren't vaccinated, they make you pay for your own weekly nose swab for about $100 a month. I'll wait until the US FDA approved vaccines are available. I suspect there's the same incidence of side effects but twice the efficacy. Plus, I don't trust the Chinese nor our UAE health department. I don't think there is much reason for the world-wide panic so I'm not personally motivated but if it saves me $100 a month, I'll consider one I trust. The "equity" flimflam has been bothering me for a while now. They dropped equality years ago, but they still want people to believe it's a progressive goal. I've encountered quite a few middle class white women who still buy it. You know, they believe BLM is in favor of equality. I can only tell them to go read their web page. It's all right there.
