Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

"Exercise doesn't improve health for the overweight"
I'm a little dissapointed in your headline, dare I say its the kind of bad contextualizing we have come to expect from the MSM. The article makes it quite clear that if you are overweight you are not "healthy" but that even if you are overweight, exercise certainly helps your health, even if you are not brought back up to factory spec you are much better off than the slovenly who do nothing. First rule of "new study shows" headlines is that it's nonsense spoken by an idiot.
And you're right - the actual article is the exact opposite of what the headline claims. What they're saying is that if you're overweight and exercise, the exercise doesn't magically cure every single one of your health problems, it only helps somewhat with a lot of them. Yes, it is true that it's better to exercise and not be overweight, but it's also better to exercise, not be overweight, and be 23 years old, but that's not a recommendation that if you're not 23 years old you might as well just give up. "New study shows" whatever who's paying for it wants it to show.
Yes, I agree.
I think the point is that it's better to lose fat than to exercise, for overall health. If they get discouraged and stop exercising, that's not going to be better.
The people who enjoy exercise think that everyone else would enjoy it too, if they just gave it a try. You can get used to it and like it a little better, and everyone can get that short-term buzz from exercise. But how long that buzz lasts and how strong it is is highly variable. The easiest way to lose a few pounds and get started is not to make any resolutions or promises, but just keep a food diary. It's not magic, but it does some good. Re: Superbowl ads: The executives in big conglomerates have realized that football is no longer worth the trouble. They're just following the lead of the diminishing crowd numbers and realizing it ain't worth the money for the revenue returned.
What is unspoken is this: Most Americans are insulted seeing millionaire football athletes with entitled lifestyles claiming spiritual injuries inflicted by society, when by any definition, they are society's winners. Most Americans resent seeing it, and especially resent having their face ground into it by corporations selling their products by cravenly signalling their virtuous alignment. The Americans that actively support radical progressive agendas like 'boys playing in girls sports', make up a tiny percentage of the population. No parent wants to see their daughter's team spoiled by such patent unfairness. How would you explain it to them? Few parents could claim pride if their sons chose that 'claimed identity' route. And the crazy-loud shrieking in-your-face hairy fools demanding 'social justice' (remedy to be announced) don't use those advertised products anyway. Hearing me, Gillette? I don't use them anymore, either. Go grow a pair and pour your creative energy into making your products better - and then, we'll see. re Several Super Bowl Advertisers Bow Out over Fear of Offending Viewers
The good news here is that there are large corporations who realize that, "Republicans by sneakers too." They are interested in making money instead of 'raising awareness' and indoctrinating us. How they will structure ads that don't offend the Right or particularly every last crank on the Left is going to be a challenge. No. The article is an insult to our intelligence. No company executive is consumed with worry that they will offend Americans. The ads just don't return what they used to, and the NFL has become so ridiculous that being seen there no longer represents an opportunity to gain status and bragging rights.
If they were really concerned about infuriating Americans, all they would have to do is start selling their products and stop spewing moral instruction. If they went back to straight product endorsement, nobody on any side would have anything to say. Who is going to complain that a toilet paper company is spending millions to sell their toilet paper? On what premise? Nobody, because there isn't one. Re: Chicago Teachers Union Refuses Order To Go Back to Classrooms ...
... thus exposing the lie that teachers’ unions are in any way about teaching. Re Super Bowl Ads - The corporations might as well run their woke ads. The rest of us aren't watching.
No mention of the horrifying attack on a visitor to NY City yesterday. The video is tough to watch. Apparently this young man just got off the bus from Georgia and didn't even have time to escape his fate. No mention of the race of the two dozen attackers and the victim. Very strange! We all see the elephant in the room but no one talks about it.
Who's fault is this? De Blasio? Bloomberg? Al Sharpton? Gov Cuomo? Who is it inciting this erection (sorry Chuckie). It was almost laughable (if it weren't so serious) to see the fat black women running to kick this guy in the head after he was knocked down. This must be the only exercise they get. What is that makes someone do that? I mean kick an unconscious innocent man in the head or jump on him with both feet??? Hate? Racism? Stupidity? Genetic? Oops, can I say that? Of course not, can't say anything outside what the government demands you believe. SO why can't we call this what it is; Racism, a hate crime, black supremacy? Why must we all make believe that it is something else??? We all know the 'code' used by the MSM. If a "group of teens" riot and loot what they mean is a group of black kids. If a "crowd of people" beat and nearly kill some guy we all know what is meant by "a crowd of people". But it is offensive to actually acknowledge what cannot be said. How much longer must we endure these racist attacks, especially while they are increasing? Creating an environment so threatening that one must knowingly parrot a falsehood is a classic technique used by tyrants to rob a population of its self respect and sense of agency.

Teachers unions can go pound sand. Dr. Fauci has just come out and said that masks don't work. As usual he said it using double speak but the point is clear.
"Dr. Fauci Says Wearing Two Masks Makes ‘Common Sense’ and Is Likely ‘More Effective’". So one mask isn't effective two 'may be' more effective. But even wearing two masks is still deemed not as effective as the N95 which by the way is 'only' 95% effective for the wearer and far less effective for those around the wearer. So how effective is a cloth mask? Estimates are that it can block transmission (either way) of up to 8% of virus. But even if you accept the ridiculously low effectiveness you still need to understand the statistics behind it. IF the mask stops 8% of the virus that does NOT mean it reduces your chances of getting the virus by 8%. It means that if there is virus in the air you will breathe in 92% of it which could be millions and millions of the little bastards and since you only need 8-15 virus to become infected you are 100% certain to become infected. If the N95 mask is 95% effective you will still breathe in 5% of the virus that is in the air and that could still be millions of the little buggers and you WILL become infected. So is the mask effective??? Only if the intent is to condition Americans that believing that you are free and have free will is selfish. The masks are 100% effective in destroying your freedom. Now it is beginning to make sense that Justice Antonin Scalia had to be killed. DO you believe that Scalia would have stood still for SCOTUS refusing to hear cases regarding the massive election fraud? Scalia was too honest, too much of a constitutional scholar to allow to live.
re: mini-circular saw
There is no way this is better than a regular 7 1/4" circular saw. If it's powerful enough to rip 2x4s then I'd rather have somehing with weight and bulk. This looks like something from an infomercial. And please don't wear gloves when using power tools like they are in the website photo. That's just asking to lose a finger or worse. |
