Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Big Tech enterprises have become de facto monopolies. How do they get away with suppressing any competition?
Sorry, "have" should be "ever." Do Progs ever get tired of their own bull shit?
Ref : Markel
Several leaders have openly expressed alarm. They're watching a corporate coup, and they realize it could be them. Re: Why will the big tech giants never censor foreign authoritarian regimes?
Do we really have to ask? They are the fascists they accuse conservatives of being. The fact that a billionaire is not safe ought to cause our billionaires to pause and think. The fact that they have not should remind us that $ does not necessarily equal smarts any more than it equals morality.
If it were a matter of principle, perhaps they'd think.
As it is, it's a matter of influence to them, and they'd likely write-off this case as a matter of ineptly-used influence. I'm reminded of Major General Freddie de Guingand's comment, "Victory is a very dangerous thing, in that it leaves you felling that you are right and very clever." Remember when it seemed really paranoid to move to social media sites that would allow free speech? Those crazy conspiracy theories that Google filtered your searches and only returned left wing options? Ahhh! Those were the good old days when we still had free speech (we thought) and the crazy people worried about losing it were... well, crazy.
Parler Will 'Be Down Longer Than Expected' as More Vendors Drop Big Tech Alternative
QUOTE: Parler, which emerged as a Twitter alternative for conservatives, officially went offline on Monday after Amazon Web Services refused to host the site any longer. Following the Capitol riots on Wednesday, Apple and Google removed Parler from their app stores, claiming the site had refused to take down posts inciting violence. On Saturday, Amazon announced it would follow suit after employees pressured the company to remove Parler. Parler saved its data and prepared to switch to a different provider, but on Monday, Parler CEO John Matze announced the process would take longer than expected. https://pjmedia.com/news-and-politics/tyler-o-neil/2021/01/11/parler-will-be-down-longer-than-expected-as-more-vendors-drop-big-tech-alternative-n1331391 Technology has made it possible for people in modern society to be hypocrites in a way that can be conducted from a safe distance, but that produces an outraged irritation that is intimately felt in our High-Definition world. It's done because there's no consequence to it, and many people lack the better judgment of forbearance - and we're no longer in the punch-in-the-nose era where that was an accepted remedy.
The word of the day is 'Arrogance'. That's all this really is, arrogance and hubris. The Classics tell us what eventually happens, and it eventually will. This may be pie in the sky thinking, but it seems to me that at least 70M of us should reject big tech, mega/mainstream media, Hollywood, major corporations and every damned thing the hard left communists i.e. DC Swamp have soiled or destroyed with their filthy philosophy. Just quit all of it.
I'd be lost without the internet, but if I thought for one minute that 70-80M of my fellow citizens would reject it en masse, I'd do it. I didn't have the internet for 40 years of my life; I can learn to live without now. And one man can be thanked for exposing the corruption, deceit, hypocrisy, treason and hatred the Swamp has for half of the country that they have not managed to turn into beggars on the government teat. You know who that man is. President Trump. I want to say here and now that I am in favor of impeachment. Impeach Nancy Pelosi AND Joe Biden. I want our Republican representatives to open every session in the House with that demand everyday that they are both still in office.
Survey: Most don’t see life returning to “normal” any time soon: Mine is pretty normal, out here in the boonies.
MATT TAIBBI: Who’s Promoting A Civil War? The Media. As I keep saying, I don't know if the media is/are a wholly-owned subsidiary of trhe Dem Party, or it's the other way round, but it's OBVIOUS the they're in CAHOOTS. Prop. 16 showed most voters reject racial preferences: That's encouraging...but it's only one state. Why will the big tech giants never censor foreign authoritarian regimes? Because they want to work with them, for the MONEY. Social-Media Oligopolists Are the New Railroad Barons. It’s Time for Washington to Treat Them Accordingly: Buuuuuuttttt, the Dems won't have any of that! They're all in for all that money... MSNBC: ‘We Can Draw The Analogies’ Between Capitol Riot And Rise of Hitler…. Yes, you can lie about it, and you will.... California’s Internet Censorship Office is Watching What You Say: Ahhhhh, the California MiniTru...(Ministry of Truth, for those who don't know) Thanks for the Forbes story, reinforces why I quit subscribing and reading several years ago after reading the magazine for over 30 years. Now that formerly expensive but worthwhile subscription can be had for $9 except it's not worthwhile anymore.
Considering the blatant discrimination against Republicans by the big Social media companies I propose that we make all Republicans a protected class. Make it illegal to discriminate against them. And since this discrimination has gone on a long time there should reparations as well. It is ironic that most Democrats were incensed when a Christian baker refused to put anti-Christian messages on a cake for a gay wedding but they are OK with social media companies banning Republicans because they used their 1st amendment rights.
Death of political cartooning? It's worse than that; 20 years ago, it was the death of comedy itself. Jay Leno used to joke about ALL politicians, and the biggest joke was Slick Willie. He told the story, in the late 1990s, that many of his left-leaning and left wing friends used to lecture him about how he should only ridicule Republicans, never Democrats. And sure enough, Leno, the last of the "moderate" comics, moved sharply left, and ceased to be funny. And shortly thereafter, he lost his Tonight Show job to a less-funny but more left-wing host.
Does the Tonight Show still exist? I haven't watched it since then, so I'm not sure. No enemies to the Left - no jokes about the Left. Political cartooning isn't dead, they just want to censor that, too.
No constitutional republic can tolerate its iconic heart stormed, breached, and defiled.
Oh, it’s not restricted to constitutional republics. This applies to monarchies, soviet dictatorships, or governments like ours. |
