Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

They have the tools and the power to block dissent and they are using them. Amazon Joins Apple And Google In Cutting Off Parler The leftist tech monopolists and billionaires continue their purge ACLU To Twitter: Er … You Sure You Want To Ban Speech, Guys? Nikki Haley Likens Trump Twitter Ban to Act of Chinese Communist Party It is notable that the left is so motivated to cancel speech, while conservatives seem to welcome differences of opinion. Why?

"Liberals want conservatives to shut up, and conservatives want liberals to keep talking." Jim Treacher Blogger. March 25, 2011
This isn't going to end well. The true "insurrectionist" appears to be a guy named Jack Dorsey.
re It is notable that the left is so motivated to cancel speech, while conservatives seem to welcome differences of opinion. Why?
Because Leftism is a religion and opposing views threaten that religion. In 1 day the discourse went from:
Companies should be allowed to censor content to: Companies MUST censor content. ------ There is a phrase, usually attributed to Hemingway 'gradually, then suddenly' There is some mathematics behind it. It describes changes in financial markets. It describes physical events, like a collapse of a building. For a while there is creaking and groaning, maybe the floor looks a little crooked, maybe there are a few more cracks in the plaster. This can go on for weeks, months. Then suddenly, in a couple of seconds, EVERYTHING goes to hell. It happens in social and moral orders. It happens in politics. Consider the old Soviet Union. Going strong on pure power for decades and through the 80s There were signs of trouble here and there, cracks in the fabric, groaning in the beams, after all thre have always been troubles, but basically it was solid. Until it wasn't. The shift was fast and complete. As it fell, it pulled down East Germany and all of Eastern Europe into its own crater. So, what's my point? Our country runs on tradition and momentum. The standards, the expectations including politics. Administrations come and go, one side wins, the other grudgingly pushes through, but the central core, the system, the societal structure stays. What happens, however, if one side decides not to play by the rules. Decides that the written government and rules we've lived by for over 200 years are null and void. If the traditions that bind us: belief in freedom, independence, opportunity, rule of law, personal responsibility are 'obsolete' or are even something to be despised. Are we now seeing these very claims being repeated over and over by large numbers of people? Have they lost the grounding? What happens? What happens when the foundation is no longer held together by the forces of common belief in the system? At some point, things happen very fast. ACLU to Twitter: Er … you sure you want to ban speech, guys?:
ABSO-DAMN-LUTELY they do! I don't trust the ACLU, either. The New York Times’ Eric Lipton notices that the ACLU seems to be having difficulty with their argument, however: RIIIIIGHT. The NYT is not trustworthy. I despise, detest, and totally distrust the media, especially the NYT and WaPoo. They and the Dems are in cahoots. It is notable that the left is so motivated to cancel speech, while conservatives seem to welcome differences of opinion. Why? Answer: Conservatives are not fascists nor communists. Does anyone else see the 'Tower of Babel' legend in this?
People communicating too much offends the gods. Off topic:
And these people vote . . . Why No One Wanted A&W's Third-Pound Burger QUOTE: Alfred Taubman, who owned A&W at the time, wrote about the confusion in his book Threshold Resistance: More than half of the participants in the Yankelovich focus groups questioned the price of our burger. "Why," they asked, "should we pay the same amount for a third of a pound of meat as we do for a quarter-pound of meat at McDonald's? You're overcharging us." Honestly. People thought a third of a pound was less than a quarter of a pound. After all, three is less than four! https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/76144/why-no-one-wanted-aws-third-pound-burger This is capitalism
Companies have a responsibility to ensure profits for their shareholders, not to give free political platforms for all Do you want BIG GOVERNMENT to force companies to offer political viewpoints for free? Parler paid for their AWS hosting service. If Amazon was purely focused on profits and since Parler was growing dramatically (more profits) why did they shut down the site? It was solely about politics, not capitalism.
They have a legal right to decide what voices to allow based on political position.
HOWEVER, if they choose to do so, the are PUBLISHERS, not platforms. And thus have the liability of publishers. This isn't 'capitalism'.
This is the equivalent of your small Southern town Restaurant refusing to serve some people based on their color AND in the early morning hours burning down any restaurants who will serve anyone. Actually this is the legitimate definition of Fascism. Not the neo-fascism the left defined (meaning anything the other side does). It wasn’t for free, Parler paid for the hosting service. Do you have any understanding of how contracts work?
Every website needs to use software--and the licensing always comes with lots of fine print stipulations. For instance a lot (including stuff you're using at home) have a clause about not using it 'to promote illegal activities'. Probably pages of other caveats as well.
Potential for another kind of censorship. Who decides what is legal? In America a judge and jury decides not a CEO.
Make no mistake this isn't simply "big tech" this is the communist left. Big tech like most of our institutions has been infiltrated by the Chinese and their minions. This is probably the most insidious thing That foreign interlopers have done in the U.S. in the last 244 years. This is the biggest step to destroying our republic that we have seen yet. First they steal the election, then they use social media to shut down any opposition, what/s next?
All of social media sweeps up all your contacts, your location, your name, the names of your friends and people who 'like' you and what platforms you use (phone, computer etc.) They can use this to track you, know what you buy, who you associate with, who you listen to, everything. The systems in big tech can even download all of your pictures and video along with all the information attached. Did you go on a cruise and take a group photo with other strangers? Was one of them the former leader of a KKK group? Try to explain that when they release it if you were to 'dare' to run for office. Did you upload personal information to the cloud, maybe even without knowing it? They got that too. Everything is inter-connected. Everything is remembered forever. If you have ever used your phone to go on social media or email then they know everything else you did with your phone. This is all much bigger that you ever knew. My advice is to the 74 million conservative out there and your family; get off social media. Terminate your memberships, boycott, refuse to do business with them or anyone who advertises with them. It can't be fixed and will get worse. Get out now!!! QUOTE: "It is notable that the left is so motivated to cancel speech, while conservatives seem to welcome differences of opinion." Oh, is that what you think this is? Odd, after seeing this plus the targeting of companies to withhold their professional services from certain individuals (law firms, fr'instance), plus the removal of business services and cancellation of money-transacting accounts such as PayPal or credit cards or banking, plus getting people fired or demoted from their employment positions, plus the occasional violent assaults -even assassination- of the people practicing Free Speech/Free Association Wrong-Think, plus the selective prosecution of such individuals on charges that never seem to appear against certain political/social groups, plus the expulsion of people from their university education of choice (for Wrong-Think) ..... plus, plus, plus. I was thinking it might just be some other motivation at work. Just a hunch. "Annihilation via Balkanization" does seem to spring to mind as an adequate description. Remember, it's not a conspiracy if everyone knows the plan and acts on their own. California’s Internet Censorship Office is Watching What You Say
QUOTE: A government office created by California Democrats is monitoring hashtags, classifying political speech it opposes by “threat level”, taking screenshots of posts, and then storing the information indefinitely, before reporting the offending speech to social media companies for censorship. What sort of speech is a government office run by Democrats trying to censor? One example of political speech successfully censored by the Office of Election Cybersecurity is a tweet that “alleged thousands of 2020 ballots were tossed out". . . . Jenna Dresner, the senior public information officer for the Office of Election Cybersecurity, boasted that the government office maintains an internal database of online speech coded by threat level, and that its censorship calls had resulted in removals 77% of the time. http://www.danielgreenfield.org/2021/01/californias-internet-censorship-office.html We all knew this was coming. Your typical Biden voter is A-OK with this. I expect the economic attack and effort to undermine the Working Middle and its bourgeoise values, to continue in earnest. Trump was a temporary hiatus.
Biden-Big Tech-Big Media Dictatorship Begins | The Jeffrey Lord
QUOTE: Days after Donald Trump called for breaking up the Big Tech monopolies in order to preserve democracy, they have silenced him. Friday evening, Twitter announced that the sitting president had been banned from the platform that is his primary means of public communication. Of course, they waited until the Democratic Party took power to shut it down. Silicon Valley oligarchs are more powerful than the president of the United States, and they want you to know it. Like most actions taken to suppress extremism, this will cause more of it. The assault on speech accelerates, and we at “Tucker Carlson Tonight” are not immune. Friday morning, CNN announced that it is working to force the Fox News Channel off the air and run this company out of business. https://thejeffreylord.com/biden-big-tech-big-media-dictatorship-begins/ |
