Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

For TG, easy and delicious


For the few of our readers who are even bothering with cooking for 3 or four people (I know it's a beloved tradition but sheesh - at least just get take-out or go to the diner if you don't have a jolly crowd),  Grandma's Corn Pudding is delicious and easy as pie.


Thanksgiving supper is not about gourmet. Grandma made pudding out of cans.

Hearty, yes! Gourmet? Not so much. But, man, oh, man, that there corn puddin' has a heap of calories. Should I just pour it into my hip pockets, fore and aft?

What? You don't remember Raphie's Dad in A Christmas Story? Thanksgiving dinner is all about the leftovers.

It will only be the two of us this year. DH's only request: that 3 layered jello salad: red jello with reasberries, cream cheese, cranberry relish there are some nuts in there somewhere!

No, not always fancy for Thanksgiving. I knew one family that included macaroni and cheese among its Thanksgiving dishes.

Mac and cheese is just American fettucini alfredo.

The last few Thanksgivings have often been the two of us but we always make enough for at least 3 days of meals. Definitely about the leftovers, and Thanksgiving sandwiches (turkey, stuffing, and cranberry relish)

Gringo - Since moving south of the Ohio, and marrying a lady with Southern foodways, I have been introduced to the idea that mac-n-cheese is not a main course as it was in Iowa but a side dish.

We'll have 3-6 adults and 4-5 kids. I couldn't find a large turkey so I bought two 13 pounders. I look forward to plenty of leftovers. I see a turkey and andoulle gumbo in the near future, cajun style. I have a Blue Stilton and an aged cheddar in my fridge that is taking all my will power not to eat before Thursday noonish.

I like your idea of cranberry pancakes so I'm considering making that for Friday's breakfast.

Thanksgiving may not be about gourmet, but it is a nice change of pace, esp. for a small group....
