We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Ecocide

"Killing nature" - A possible crime for the International Criminal Court. I have a few off-the-cuff list of items for that crime:


- All forms of agriculture other than hunting and gathering. No - include hunting and gathering too.


- All forms of transportation including horses and oxen.


- All forms of heating, cooling, and cooking, including wood fuel, solar farms, wind farms, or hydroelectric


All of those things kill nature. Let's face it - since humanity began, ecocide has been its implicit mission. Mass suicide is the only solution for nature. Nature is not for parks - it's for everywhere.

IMHO a better response is to make them live by their own rules. You can be a vegan, I don't care but you cannot consume meat or any by products of the animal industry. You can call for banning fossil fuels but your house must be disconnected from the grid and your electric car cannot be charged from the grid, you can't use public transportation or fly. If you call for banning cutting trees than you must live without any forest products. But you cannot tell the rest of us how to live our lives, even if you are elected to office.

I'd turn the tables. Put the ICC and the UN itself on trial for the crime against humanity of attempting to destroy civilization.

Because having the products of civilization available is a human right.

Humans have managed nature for hundreds of thousands of years. Hell, beavers and honeybees manage nature. Many species do, if you only step back and notice it. Native Americans were very good at managing nature, not "living in harmony with it," whatever that means.

Commercial fishing is just a hunter-gatherer strategy, when you look at it. It's a really good, technologically sophisticated one, but it's just HG stuff.

To promote health and get the rotation of the Earth in sync so leap years are unneeded: A ramp at the equator such that when the Ministry of Health orders us to climb east and Teflon skid west on the adjacent ramp, we, together and united will slow the Earth to exactly 24 hours in rotation.

in the late 1990s there was actually a political party in the Netherlands running on an agenda of "returning all reclaimed land to the sea".
They were adamant that the people who'd have their homes and businesses destroyed as a result would get no compensation because "they have gotten more than enough benefits of their theft of nature already" or some such nonsense.
They were, as all such idiots, massively surprised that they didn't get more than a very few people to vote for them.

Always amusing to me when the "Evolutionists" separate Humans from "Nature". If Humans are just another evolved species, then all that humans do is natural and just part of the natural environment. All life forms use the environment for their survival. Most species use other species for food, even plants do better if they have other dead plants to feed on. Just because Humans can think and project the future, does not mean humans are responsible for all of creation.
