We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
My gym is finally opening on Monday after being closed since the beginning of March. However, only one person can use the gym at a time and you have to make an appointment and give them your identifying information for when you then come down with Covid. A lot of the commercial gyms here have just gone out of business, this one is subsidized by the office building owner as an amenity, so it's a little different.
Hit the gym (LA Fitness megabox) for the first time in 6 months last Sunday. The de facto policy appears to be mask for entry, but then nobody cares. A table of sanitizer bottles and towels was provided, too.
I only tried a short, light workout. Given the layoff, that was enough to give me a pleasant soreness the day after. Thinking about going again tonight.
We just started back at the Y this week. Masks to get in but not to workout. Services and classes diminished. Restrictions enhanced. Best thing is to see old friends. But it’s Illinois so everything will close down next week again and if Trump wins will stay closed. If Biden wins will open. Ain’t politics swell?
But I can now pinch grip a 12 pack and carry it (and 20 pounds of groceries) up 3 flights of stairs without getting winded (this is in Denver).
And my fitbit says I'm averaging about 55 miles a week of walking. Most of that pushing a grocery cart.

Our gym opened mid-September after being closed since mid-March here in NW lower MI. It is affiliated with the local hospital, so restrictions are quite tight. Masks for everything. No fiftness classes. Limits on how many people can be in each of the workout rooms. Self-sanitize nearly everything you touch. So far, our county of about 25,000 has had 3 deaths.
Our horrible Dem governor actually said on Meet the Press last Sunday: "And if you're tired of lockdowns, or you're tired of wearing masks, or you wish you were in church this morning or watching college football or your kids were in in-person instruction, it is time for change in this country and that's why we've got to elect Joe Biden."
My gym was closed for the first 2 months after the initial government panic. After that, we have been flying under the government radar. Windows papered over, signs on the door stating that this is a member's only gym and that it is closed. I have been working out regularly for the last 6 months. Masks are supposed to be worn but no one is enforcing this. Only a few people here and there wearing masks. All the oldsters such as myself are not wearing masks, only a few of the early 20s crowd have masks. The gym owners did spend a bunch of money on air purifiers and sanitizing.
My gym reopened in July. We have to wear masks at all times (although if you are the only person in the cardio area, no one comes to check on you) unless we are swimming. Classes are limited to ten per class per room, and there's a capacity limit on the building. Everyone in the weight area wears masks, but a lot of the 65+ crowd no longer come in the mornings.
The owner of my gym was very proactive with NYS, and got to open in June, under very limited occupancy rules.
Prior to that, his business was dead in the water from march through June.
Under the soft opening, there was no mask requirement. In fact, no requirement of any kind, other than the occupancy limits.
Come September, under the official edicts from NYS, masks / shields are required. Temperature checks and sign ins must be maintained (in fact the Dept of Health for Erie County just came in again to check the books).
And yet, through all of this nonsense, he's a confirmed Cuomo voter.
Some people just don't want to see what is right in front of their face
My gym reopened a couple of months ago and I've been going since the first day. The owner and patrons obeyed the mask rule for about a day. It's simply impossible and probably very dangerous to do heavy weights or cardio with a face mask on, so everyone removes them while exercising.
