Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

[blockquote]Over 4,000 Doctors, Public Health Professionals Sign “Great Barrington Declaration,” Urging End to COVID-Restrictions[/blockquote]
According to Liberal Logic (pat. pending), the science is therefore settled. "Who pays for the toilet paper?" What a silly story. Leave it to the Dutch to figure a way to bring your private business to the attention of the government so it can be regulated with the cost passed on to the private sector.
Me as Boss: "Since you are working from home and are grownups, the Business declares the use of toilet paper as optional and at the discretion of the throne occupant." As for the cost, consider taking it from the savings you've realized while not commuting and working in your pajamas for the past 8 months. Darn right it became an expense. I used to steal the rolls from the office.
This particular story might seem silly, but early on in the pandemic when people were hoarding toilet paper this was a serious consideration - with so many people not going to the office and so many kids not going to school, bathroom usage was confined largely to the home. It might seem a trivial issue, but the aggregate demand on more home-based toilet paper (as opposed to the commercial sort that accounts for institutional buying) created temporary shortages in toilet paper supplies.
I don't find that sort of thing silly at all, but rather quite fascinating in that you wouldn't normally take that kind of thing into consideration, it wouldn't occur to you to think about such a thing. (It also isn't something a government bureaucrat would necessarily think of, which explains why central planning never seems to work - you don't know what you don't know but most of us have the humility to recognize this fact whereas bureaucrats refuse to accept any such limitation on their knowledge.) Well.......who do you know, personally, that ran short of toilet paper to the point of having to use a substitute?
Anyone? I don't know of anyone who came close. Lots of reporting on panic buying though, just to keep everybody calm. We had stocked up on such tissue "just in case" in advance of colonoscopy prep and ended up helping out a few friends who found that their households had run short.
We advised a relative abroad who ran short (widower with kids unexpectedly sent home from college!) to check with his friends who owned restaurants, and it turned out that they were happy to deliver to him with all the meat, fresh vegetables, and toilet-roll he could use -- at cost or below. The stuff was all still coming in their door per their contracts, even when they couldn't have customers. I agree with Jerryskids that the shortages from panic-buying and 'hoarding' are sociologically interesting. I don't know of anyone personally, although we did one time have to buy an off brand of toilet paper and there were definitely empty shelves in many places. The larger point is that with "lean manufacturing", plants tend to operate at or near 100% capacity because they can't afford to keep excess capacity sitting around idle and with "just in time" deliveries there's no excess product just sitting around in warehouses. When this pandemic caught everybody by surprise, there was little time to react before shortages starting showing up. Toilet paper manufacturers had all the commercial product you could want, not so much of the home-based stuff. And it's not as if you can just flip a switch and start producing more of one and less of the other, you have to retool a factory line. The question is, do you want to retool a factory line? How long is this pandemic going to last? Is it worthwhile to go through the trouble and expense of retooling? What are your competitors doing? You don't know, but either way you're taking a risk.
The same thing is true of complex supply chains, a hurricane here or a revolution there, and suddenly you're up the creek and you never saw it coming. If you're dependent on a foreign supplier for a critical part, you'd better have a back up plan. He may have authorized it, but these deep state evil doers will never release them. Trump, in his second term, needs to dismantle the federal government. You’re fired! And you’re fired! You’re fired. Fired. Fired. Fired. Wouldn’t it be marvelous?
I know I should prefer Susan Collins to her progressive challenger, but after all these years I can't bring myself to send her a check.
And yet she did ultimately come through on Kavanaugh. I have always felt about like you about Susan Collins, however when I listened to her lengthy speech on why she was going to vote for Kavanaugh I had more respect for her. It seemed to be the most thought out educated decision of any in congress I have ever heard. Usually I don't agree with many of her decisions but that one was spot on.
Susan Collins has dreams of being the spoiler. After John McCain died she became the supreme Rino anti-Republican senator. She eagerly took her position as the disagree'r in chief. I suspect this attitude goes back to her childhood and rebellion to her parents and siblings. She enjoys being the 'clinker' of the Senate.
It's funny that Politico ascribes Collins' plight to a wave of anti-Trump sentiment when it is Collins own anti-Trump sentiments that may account for her plight. Along with Murkowski, Collins has been well-known as one of the biggest RINOs in the Senate, too liberal for much of the GOP. "Hold your nose and vote for Collins" isn't as strong an argument as it used to be when you see with Trump what is actually possible to achieve if you refuse to settle.
CA Governor's Office Says To Wear Mask 'In Between Bites' At Restaurants: It'll dribble out into the mask. Eeeeeeeeewwwww.
Are Americans Tired of Being Called ‘Racist’ Yet? I just ignore the bastards. Portland’s mayor now trails challenger, but…the challenger is way, waay, waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy worse. Which says, get out of Portland before it's TOO LATE. I'd recommend leaving Oregon entirely, WaPo: Say, did you know Barrett considered herself a “handmaid”? Well, the WaPoo WaPooooooooooooooooooooped a PILE"O"CRAP again. It's what it does. President Trump Authorizes Total Declassification of All Documents Related to Spygate, Hillary Email Scandal – WITH NO REDACTIONS: Shit; fan; BIG TIME. Heh, heh, heh... Biden’s Repudiation of Obama’s Foreign Policy: If it's in the WaPoo, you KNOW is a steaming heap o' stinky WaPoop. The next generation of Masks (v 2.0) will come fitted with a double airlock.

Oh. I don't know. Maybe check in with FORMER fans of the NBA and NFL, whose ratings are in free fall! There is a little semantic bait and switch going on about Joe's tax intent. He will first legislate the largest single tax increase on the middle and lower class in history by reversing Trump's tax cuts. He is trying to pass this off as nothing more than reversing something Trump did and not acknowledging that it is an enormous tax increase. Then he will implement his massive tax increase on businesses which will be the nail in the coffin for the economy. Yet, he will continue to claim that reversing Trump's tax cuts is not raising taxes.
Redactions don't take time to remove, redactions take time to add. The original documents don't have redactions, they just need to be released.
So the narrative about it taking time to remove all the redactions is yet another lie by the deep state and the media. A lie that any thinking person can clearly see were they not hypnotized. Re: Remote Learning is a Catastrophe
"Begin with the effect on the workforce brought about by eliminating the largest source of free childcare." Child care isn't "free". It's provided to single mothers at taxpayer expense. So basically, women who don't want the burden of marriage can simply have children out of wedlock, and then tax men's paychecks to get the money. What a scam. The government now offers "free" vaccinations, and "free" medical care, "free" school to illegal aliens, and "free" job placement assistance. But all of those services cost money. They aren't free at all. In fact, government-supplied services are very expensive in terms of value for money. The private sector always does things faster and cheaper. Including education. Private schools are much better than public schools; and private schools are half the price. Church schools cost even less. So remember: there is no such thing as "free". Free = High Payroll Taxes, and illegal Wealth Redistribution. "As soon as the president demanded schools open their doors, opposition to the idea shot up 20 points as Americans understandably concluded that he was pursuing his own political interest at the expense of public health. But this turns out to be one of the cases where the normally reliable heuristic, everything Trump wants is bad, has failed."
The NYT and MSM can shoulder 99.9% blame for this. If, God forbid, Biden gets into office and starts enacting his tax and spend policies just watch the economy start grinding to a halt. We'll be told by the democrats and their propogandists in the MSM that the job losses and industries being shuttered will be the "new normal" (heard that before?), and the funniest part is that those marginalized/underserved areas that carried that water for Biden/Harris will be the ones hurt the most.
They'll deserve it, and like I tell my kids, don't come complaining to me about self-inflicted wounds. "If God Forbid Biden gets into office". Not to worry Hoss--IF he gets into office he will be "to sick to serve" within six months and she will become the first "FEMALE" president. That has always been the plan of the Marxist/Feminist/Democratic party! One way or the other they will get a female into that office!
Because of the Democrats commitment to packing the Supreme Court I think Trump should nominate 9 more conservative justices and McConnell should get them voted in before Jan 20, 2021.
Mansplaining: If it is done to a man, which it is of course, a man knows that you don't resort to whining about it and claiming a deference because of your gender (soy boys exempt from this rule).
If it is done to a woman, which it is of course just as 'womansplaining is done to men, then "time out" women are too delicate to hear words they don't want to hear and the man must be sent to the penalty box for the rest of their life. "Mansplaining" is a ploy, a fake defense, like "racism" to be played anytime you run out of facts and ability. van morrison - Born to be Free
