We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Why has everything become about race?


Well, specifically about those with African ancestry? 


I think it's the November election. Trump's approval with African-Americans keeps rising, and that could be death for Democrats. One might imagine that the US is becoming more anti-black by the day. Wrong.

It's because the public schools are now teaching K-12 students a vicious form of racism called "critical race theory." The book "White Fragility" gives details of this bogus belief system, but basically it says all whites are oppressors and racists and all blacks are victims, regardless of whether the particular whites and blacks or even their ancestors did anything or had anything happen to them to justify those judgments. Then the theory decrees that society as it now exists is "white supremacist" and must be destroyed.

This "theory" is not just self-serving but so laughably, obviously BS that no rational person could possibly believe it, and no non-malicious person could possibly teach it. In my judgment, anyway. So there is no doubt to give anyone the benefit of.

I think jdgalt hits pretty close to the market. I saw a posting the other day that talked about an analysis of surveys of in group cohesion, essentially how strongly positive people feel about their ethnic group. Racial minorities typically score higher than whites on these surveys. This one broke out white scores by political leanings. As typical, only the most 'racist' whites scored as high as minorities but the most interesting point was that the more liberal a white person's politics the lower their score to the point that the most liberal whites actually had a negative score. They distrusted fellow whites more than they did members of other ethnicities.

'Anti-racism' for whites is just another way to distinguish between political and social tribes. And if you think for some reason that's not possible, I'll just refer you to Western European history from say 945 AD to 1945 AD.

Schools all over are implementing "BLM" curriculums... here in Maine and all over the nation... If you have kids in school, check the curriculum... "Come on, man, not a joke!"

On Friday, President Trump took the long overdue step of stopping all federal agencies from indoctrinating their employees in the racist nonsense called Critical Race Theory. But that's only a first step.

I've created a petition to finish the job by making it illegal for an employer or school to require CRT indoctrination of its employees or students. Please sign it!

There is actually a bitter cat-fight on the left about this issue. Not all on the left agree that everything is about race. Some prominent intellectuals on the left, including some African Americans, believe that everything is about class. See Matters of Race and Class.

My view: both the race camp and the class camp are misguided. Both camps believe that we should classify people into groups, and treat them accordingly. They are just arguing about the appropriate group classification system to use. I believe we are better served by viewing people primarily as individuals instead of primarily by their group identity.

The question you asked was "why" and I think it has been covered pretty well by the answers above mine.

What we should be asking is: what are we going to do with this info? I am against any move to make the government stronger. When you do, the government always panders to those who will only vote for it if the government pays them off with big goodies.

The biggest divide for me is statists vs freedom lovers. While some on the left think you can have freedom and big government, you just can't. Government inevitably moves to stomp those who would limit it or check its growth. When you couple that power to the racist views of those who are destroying cities now, you get a DANGEROUS mix.

I am sure that if the ethnic studies professors of the world were to get the power, we'll see the inside of gas chambers within a generation. It is just the natural progression of the "whites as evil" mantra.

I REALLY hope I am wrong about this.

It's worth remembering how Democrats treated People of Color before they became reliable votes for Democrats in the late 1960s.
