Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

EMP weapons are real and really bad. They won't kill anyone directly. They have the capability to shut down the electrical grid for years. Bye bye internet, electronic payment systems, lights, air conditioning, heating, water sewer, etc.
I don't think they are real.
Concept? Maybe. But not in production. I always get hung up on the energy balance - the amount liberated by an EMP weapon would have to be really huge to fry electronics at distance. This implies multiple, coordinated weapons. I think it's unlikely.
Of course if they went for the major technology / urban centers in the USA, then this logically means they would including Mexico and Canada in their attack geography. That would pretty much put the civilized world against them. Well....aside from the NBA of course. All effective EMP weapons are nuclear. In other words if any country choose to use an EMP against us they would have just started a nuclear war and 2000 nukes would be headed their way within hours. For an EMP device to be effective it must be an atmospheric burst. That means it must be delivered by a missile, which means we would be able to track it and about 15 minutes before it goes off we would know within 100 feet where it came from. So it can't be "snuck" into the country and us not know who did it.
Additionally EMPs work kinda like the sun. Think of it this way if you lay in the sun for 4 hours you get a bad sunburn. But if you are in the shade you don't. Same with EMP, almost anything will block the energy making the effects of it very spotty. Also the energy decreases exponentionally with distance. An electronic device 50 miles away might be disabled but the same device 100 miles away might be unharmed. Typically the EMP scare involves some scenario where the entire electric grid is destroyed. Very unlikely. What is likely is that with an ideal EMP event that transmission lines would incur damage, i.e. be severed and that some fuses would be blown. Within hours 10,000 utility workers would be out repairing these lines and fuses and within days most of the electrical distribution system would be restored. The EMP just isn't as deadly as claimed. A friend of the family had her father die of a MI last month and the death cert says Covid.
No bleev lockdown. Lockdown are a**h*e! My age cohort survived epidemics of poliomyelitis, scarlet fever, pertussis, and others. I've been quarantined in a tenement at least twice. I recall movie theatres and public swimming pools being closed, but that's about it. WITH vaccine, influenza kills 30-60 thousand, so Covid doesn't seem that scary to me. Wash your hands, avoid prolonged indoor crowds, call rather than visit Granny, restrict entry to LTC facilities. No more lockdown, please.

The "The Risk-Tolerant America, and Zero-Risk America".
That may well be a true statement. But it does not capture the issue. Perhaps it should say "those who understand what is going on ands the sheep". Does the mask protect you? There isn't really an argument you can make that it does. It is more superstition and hope than science. Would a health care worker depend on a mask and nothing else in a infectious environment? Of course not. Why? Because they don't work. Now, some will say that they work a little or 'may' help or even why not use them anyway even though they are not effective. You have to wonder, why? Why do we wear them anyway even though they don't work? Well, for a lot of people superstition and hope reign supreme. And for a lot of people being a sheep comes naturally. But the real reason behind it all is the "Karen" effect. People love to find someone who is wrong. "You aren't wearing a mask you must be selfish." Or "officer, there is someone over here without a mask, we need some muscle over here." Here is a brilliant idea that will actually save lives: Require everyone take and pass CPR classes in high school and then take the classes and recertify every 5 years for life. Additionally require that every adult carry with them a basic IFAK kit that contains at least a CAT Tourniquet, a Israeli Type Bandage, a Nasopharyngeal Airway and QuikClot Gauze. This would be less oppressive than mandating masks and would actually save lives. It would be a brilliant decision by our governors and federal government. Just a little anecdote:
Yesterday hubby and I went to our dermatologist. We are required to wear masks. We didn't wear them in because last visit no one in the waiting room was wearing one. This time the receptionist asked us to wear them. We got them out and put them on because it is too much trouble to reschedule doctor appointments. After the waiting room cleared of all but my husband and I, I removed my mask. (The receptionist is behind a glass.) She opened the glass to tell me to put it back on. I didn't and she evidently tattled to a nurse who came out to tell me to put it on. I moved to a chair where the receptionist couldn't see me. Of course, when you get in to see the dermatologist, the mask comes right off! Literally everyone on TV that tells us to wear a mask is not wearing a mask. The irony is lost on them.
Yesterday we went to Walmart and in my state masks are required except for children 12 and under and people whit health/breathing problems. Well, I have a legitimate health breathing problem but the hassle isn't worth it so I put my mask on. But you have to wonder abut the child exemption. Every parent knows that every time they get sick it is from something their kids brought home. Kids are like walking petri dishes and yet our governor exempts them. Why? It would literally make more sense for the governor to require everyone under the age of 18 wear a mask and everyone else is exempt. None of this makes sense. None of it is intended to make us safe. It is, at this point, all politicis. I was in a store the other day and this woman had her 4 yr old kid on her lap (maskless, although she wore one). the Kid finally had enough of sitting and she set him down to run laps in the store. She masked him first.
The only reason I wear a mask is because I'm not willing to go to jail for assaulting someone who demands I wear a mask.
The only reason. From Jim Gergahty's Morning Jolt
Maybe the Most Jaw-Droppingly Good Jobs Report in U.S. History Holy smokes, this news is so off-the-charts good, at first glance people might think it is a misprint: The U.S. economy added 4.8 million jobs in the month of June, and the unemployment rate dropped from 13.3 percent to 11.1 percent. We knew that as lockdowns lifted and businesses reopened their doors, employers would bring back laid-off workers. Economists expected a little under 3 million. Regarding the Russia leaks story. The lead points out that intel disaster about Saddam's nuclear power. This entire issue is always treated in a dishonest way for inexplicable reasons. There are certain facts that we know:
For two plus years before the actual invasion Saddam was allowed to have literally 10's of thousands of truckloads of weapons moved to the Bakaa Valley. We saw this on TV. For two years every truck they could get their hands on was moving weapons out of Iraq. These weren't conventional weapons. The Russians began an airlift that literally went on right up to the invasion. That is every day tens of Russian cargo plans landed in Iraq and removed, presumably, Iraq's biological weapons and dismantled their facilities (that the Russians had built for them). This is an absolute fact. Actually during the invasion American forces ran into Russian forces who were still in the country removing biological and possibly nuclear weapons. During the invasion American forces captured 550 metric tons of yellow cake uranium. This was a lot of nuclear material. Think about it they removed evidence of nuclear weapons with tens of thousands of trucks operating 24/7 for two years and still didn't have time to remove the yellow cake uranium. American forces discovered an underground nuclear weapons facility near Baghdad. This was the largest nuclear weapons facility known to man and hidden underground so that the U.S. wouldn't find it. This too is an absolute fact. Last, and most important to understand why all of this is still kept secret: Germany, France and Holland built in Iraq extensive nuclear and biological labs/facilities for Saddam. They were so greedy they were building him banned weapons manufacturing facilities. These same three countries along with Russia and China fought the invasion for over two years in the UN giving them time to dismantle and hide their involvement in Saddam's nuclear and biological weapons manufacture. We knew what they were doing and why all the time. We allowed the big lie; that Saddam's WMDs were not true, to cover for these allies. And THAT is why today news outlets will say, with a straight face, that Saddam had no WMDs... It's Liberty Valance syndrome: "This is the West, sir. When the Legend becomes fact, print the Legend"
There's more to it still. Nerve agents bear many similarities to conventional pesticides: "Nerve agents are chemical warfare agents that have the same mechanism of action as OP organophosphate pesticides insecticides. They are potent inhibitors of acetylcholinesterase . Inhibition of acetylcholinesterase leads , thereby leading to an accumulation of acetylcholine in the central and peripheral nervous system. When shipped in 55 gallon drums, nerve agents are chemicals. They are not Weapons of Mass Destruction until loaded into delivery systems, i.e. warheads. So, how does one store an inventory of chemicals? In long-term sealed drums made for handling, or loaded into weapons? See how that works? .. and the US has a nuclear submarine fleet that could melt China in a heartbeat.
The meme is that these historic figures should have their statues removed and anything named after them renamed because they were "despicable people". So isn't it time we knock down the statues of MLK and rename those streets back to what they were??? After all MLK was a philanderer and involved in a gang rape and if that isn't despicable what would be?

The unwinding of law and order in our cities has happened with stunning speed. QUOTE: Today’s violent-crime increase—call it Ferguson Effect 2.0 or the Minneapolis Effect—has come on with a speed and magnitude that make Ferguson 1.0 seem tranquil. George Floyd’s death at the hands of Minneapolis police in late May was justly condemned—but the event has now spurred an outpouring of contempt against the pillars of law and order that has no precedent in American history. Every day, another mainstream institution—from McDonald’s to Harvard—denounces the police, claiming without evidence that law enforcement is a threat to black lives. . . . These are no longer the warning signs of a possible breakdown of civilized life. That breakdown is upon us. If local and national leaders are unable to summon the will to defend our most basic institutions from false and inflammatory charges of racism, they have forfeited their right to govern. Unless new leaders come forth who understand their duty to maintain the rule of law, the country will not pull back from disaster. https://www.city-journal.org/ferguson-effect-inner-citiesq |
