We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
I would go back to your trainer's garage. You can't enjoy any smiles or make friends with people 6 feet apart, wearing masks, frantically disinfecting every weight when reracking.
You cannot have a conversation with someone in a mask. And
what the Governors are doing to small businesses is criminal. A state confiscation of private property. JMO
Trying to get back in the routing again. We are free to come and go as we please--keep safe distancing, etc. It's been so damn long. It is very difficult for older folks as is, let alone after not being able to move around for 4 months!
Home gym with olympic bar, plates, squat rack, and bench. That’s it. Working out with one friend, 3-4 times per week. We can’t believe how much stronger we are in three months. The regular sleep and protein at every meal helped. Covid strong.
Here in AZ the gyms are pretty much open as usual (for now, anyway). At my gym the hours are bit reduced, locker rooms are off limits, classes are limited in size, and every other treadmill/bike is blocked off. Masks are encouraged by not mandatory (all staff wears masks), social distancing emphasized, plenty of hand sanitizer and wipes are available and staff wipes down equipment regularly (and guests are of course expected to wipe down any equipment they use). Free weight area, where I spend most of my time, is as it was before the shutdown. As the racks were already 8-10 feet apart, no need to close any down.
Started training again at the end of May, after not having trained since the middle of March, and I'm now approaching my pre-shutdown numbers on all my lifts (squat, dead, bench and overhead press).
Here in Houston I worked out with my exercise ball and a couple of wienie stretchy bands. And I walked. When I got back to the equipment at the gym I learned that my upper body had been on vacation. I was as sore as I'd been since the first week of high school football practice.
Now we've got mandatory masks at least until the end of the month [heavy sigh]. But there's one tiny gym available through my Silver Sneaker program that was maskless yesterday. There was only two of us. Hope we can keep it under the radar.
Our gym is the floor above the Physical Therapy section of a hospital and still not open. The city pool is open for lane swimming from 7 to 9. I should be safe wearing a face mask and snorkel? But that's a 50 mile round trip to town, so hitting 10K steps with a morning walk, 30 minutes on an elliptical and beating back the rampant vegetation on the couple acres seems to be working. Expanding the use of the push mower instead of the rider will burn off some calories!
