When it comes to the COVID-19 event, we have been experiencing a serious case of tunnel vision. As we focus on the day to day increase of COVID-19 things could look pretty grim, but as we take a step back and look at the comparative total mortality here in the US, things aren’t much worse than a bad seasonal flu, like that last seen in 2017-18. If you take the New York City region out of the mix, the rest of the country is cumulatively well within the expected mortality.

A man jumped off the empire state bldg to commit suicide. As he passed the 12th floor he was heard to say "so far so good".

Or put another way, The covid virus has been active in the U.S. for 3 months or so. So far only 110,000 dead and many seriously affected by lingering health problems. But cpompare the 3 months to a really bad flu "YEAR" it it's not so bad...

It's been around a lot longer than three months. And in my county of 280K in the Puget Sound region - where it started, if you recall - we have one death.

One. So, it's not even a bad flu season.

But, it's best to stay under your bed. Forever, if need be.

Just saying! You can't compare apples with oranges and expect people to nod in agreement. I have been on this planet a long time and I don't remember any seasonal flu killing 110,000 Americans in the first three months or so.

I pastor a church in Camden, SC. Our county had an early & deadly outbreak of COVID19. Our church averaged 500 before the disruption. May 31 was our "restart" Sunday, & 180 were present, about half wearing masks. Today (June 7) we had about the same number of congregants, but almost none were wearing masks. Tho' seating is arranged for social distancing, the congregants seem to be willing to talk with one another without any regard to the guidelines. I think the rules are "wearing thin", but if a new surge moves through this community, it may refresh the fear. I really appreciate your website. I look at it a couple of times a day. Thanks for the work you do.

This article is total nonsense. I don't want to find the data for you again, but COVID 19 is ten times more dangerous than the flu in terms of outcomes.

If you want to listen to the whole thing you can listen to one of the world's leading experts talk about it here, among other things. A real expert, an American doctor who is the director of the International Vaccine Institute in Seoul and who has been involved in fighting viruses for 30 plus years. Other real experts use similar figures.

You can jump to 14:10 if you want to hear a discussion about how dangerous COVID is compared to the flu, but the discussion ranges over a whole bunch of other things about what is happening worldwide in terms of developing a vaccine and trying to control the disease.

Most of the self-promoting "authorities" in the U.S. have no clue what they are talking about, they are just pandering to what people want to hear. It's almost criminal because pretending this disease is not as dangerous as it is is going to lead to many more people becoming infected and dying. Nobody should be paying any attention to "a retired university professor, consulting psychologist, and research director in test development."

Corona virus has miraculously cured most of the other diseases; Diagnoses of flu are down markedly, as are all other causes of death.

From the CDC, as of 04/04/20 (Which is the CDC's last reporting date for estimates of seasonal flu for the 2019-2020 season):

Q. "How does the number of flu hospitalizations estimated so far this season compare with previous end-of-season hospitalization estimates?"

A. "The number of hospitalizations estimated so far this season is lower than end-of-season total hospitalization estimates for any season since CDC began making these estimates."

Wow! What a relief it must be for the relatives of all those poor folks in nursing homes who died from Covid to hear you assure them it is all bullshit. Does that mean they didn't really die and we will be able to see them again? Or are you all bullshit?

The administrative state/government employees need to be spread out all across the 50 states and Gitmo. These supposed experts are anything but experts but they do feed well at the taxpayer trough.
