Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

If one feels that way, isolate the at risk person. Don't be oppressing the rest of us with silly, ineffective, and arbitrary rules. Spot on. The “masks” that people wear in public are at best virtue signaling and at worst just germ pockets held close to their face. Keep your IC kid at home and be very careful.
I know that since Trump recommended on April 3 that the general public should wear masks when in public, it has become a political issue.
But masks are effective at reducing transmission when worn by everyone that is out where others are present; because so many people aren't aware that they're infected and contagious when they are infected and contagious. The best studies and the most recent studies show that this is true, and one can read a nice clear story about it here: https://theconversation.com/masks-help-stop-the-spread-of-coronavirus-the-science-is-simple-and-im-one-of-100-experts-urging-governors-to-require-public-mask-wearing-138507 I know that if President Trump says "Our best experts" are "recommending that Americans wear a basic cloth or a fabric mask that can be either purchased online or simply made at home", that many people will want to do the opposite, because Trump said it, but it really is a good idea to wear a mask when near others in public anyway. American Dynasty fishing boat Bellingham, WA: All crew tested negative before being allowed to board. 86 test positive after 1 crewman went to hospital, tested positive. Does NOT Say he went to the hospital FOR sickness of covid. He could have had any number of other things (broken arm?) why he went in, but there is the narrative.
Story does not say if they make all the crew wear masks. If they don't, & no, or few, more of them go to the hospital, then big whoop, they all are building immunity. IF they DO make them mask, then masks aren't worth much protection then, are they? I have a worker tested positive. He wears a mask the most of all my workers (they do not work in close contact or concentration). No symptoms. The only reason he was tested was because his child was going to have a procedure. Oh my goodness, did anyone notice the tortured construction of the key bullet points in the CBO report BD linked? "The nation’s economic output would probably be greater in the second half of 2020 than it would be without the extension of the increase" ... did you survive that verbal barrel roll? It's like they can't bring themselves to quite say it?
Cue the "Extend The Unemployment Supplement" riot. Standby "Extend Unemployment" riot.
It is all about power. Period. Everything else is a facade to hide the true objective.
Re Ann Althouse: Ann says:
QUOTE: Notice that most of these buildings are stores on the ground floor but apartments above. Imagine what it was like for the people living in those places. I really do try and be a good Christian. I really try and have empathy for people in distressful situations. I pray that people would turn to the light of Christ. However, these times that we live in, the degenerative lies of the political left, their allies in the media and democrat politicians, the very policies that the people living in the apartments above the stores have voted for for decades, are the cause of the carriage, and leave my feelings of empathy at zero. Keep voting for lunatics, Madison. Go ahead and defund your police department; follow Minneapolis and California cities lead. Things can only get worse for you. These cities should be walled off from civilization. "Wearing a mask isn't political. It could protect my son's life"

This is the message to the rioters: You have CREATED RACISM where there was little, or none before. The boarded windows with the pathetic forced sayings shouts FEAR, NOT LOVE, NOT RESPECT. And racism is based on distrust and fear. Maybe these people liked you before. Maybe they trusted you before. But you TRASHED that. They distrust you now. They may even hate you now. You have made them racist. Wearing a mask is a choice. Put one on your son so he may live. The mask gods demand it. But let us agnostics alone. Otherwise it is a simple fact that forcing healthy people to wear a mask is nothing more than unconstitutional excess of authority. Now rioting!! That's a different story altogether. Shoot the bastards. and force them to remove their masks.
