We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
We picked up enough heat from the afternoon sun, and a western exposure, to manage without heat last night. It was wonderful "sleeping weather" with a beautiful, early sunrise to start the day.
Lovely, but. It's overcast at 86 degrees and 80% humidity at 8am here in San Antonio. I'm not even tempted to go all Richard Nixon, cranking up the fireplace and a/c at the same time. To everything, there is season. Here it's wood-seasoning season, not wood-burning.

Same cool, cloudy weather in the Willamette valley. So the fireplace insert is still on duty. This actually good because the more wood I burn the less I have to move before the painters arrive this summer to paint the house.
The heat had been off in here in southern Worcester county for at least a month. I can’t have more than a very occasional ceremonial fire any more; it sets off my new wife's asthma. With a beagle or two sneaking into the bed, it’s plenty warm for sleeping. Burn the wood outdoors and toast marshmallows instead!
