We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

What is a Cytokine Storm?


A cytokine storm is the body's reaction to various forms of infections. We might consider it to be an over-reaction, because it is the defensive reaction which kills people rather than the germ itself.


Some people seem to be more prone to it than others. In the case of COVID-19, children with their less-developed immune systems are unlikely to react in this way.

Not sure how Sweden's idea is 'paying off.' Right now they have a higher mortality rate per 1M than we do...with a 12% mortality rate based on current known cases and current deaths. And, their cases only got swinging about the beginning of March with a handful. They are only about 6-7 weeks into this thing.

Sweden is not “behind”. They are just as far into this epidemic as ever other advanced European country and the US.

Not recommending an investment but ...

I have been a small investor in a New Jersey company which has a product approved for use in some European countries. They have a cartridge which is placed in a dialysis machine. Blood is then sent thru the cartridge which removes cytokines.

It is the cytokine storm that killed so many otherwise healthy adults during the Spanish Flu in 1918.

To give you an idea of how quickly it killed, the saying during the height of the pandemic in the US was "Break fast with your family in the morning. Dine with God in the evening."
