Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

re;the euro invasion.
Call out the army and treat this as what it is, an invasion. This is literally life and death for Europe. If they can't do this then they deserve what they get. It isn't as bad here, but the USA is putting up with the same kind of invasion on a smaller scale. The bleeding hearts would rather sacrifice this country than be called racists. The invaders in both places don't want to join your culture, they want you to adapt to theirs even if it takes violence and heavy breeding to do it. Western civilization in Europe is just about gone and the liberals are working on that over here hoping that numbers of those coming in will eventually vote for all the free stuff they offer.
That's what the Greeks are doing, with some limited support from volunteers from surrounding countries.
Most EU governments are screaming at them for protecting the outer border, that they must accept the millions of invaders as legal refugees and give them all free everything. Most EU citizens have been sick of it for years but governments ignore us as well as election results. Thanks to the US Army for taking our guns away in 1945. The French medical experts are saying to stay away from anti-inflammatory pain relievers like ibuprofen etc. and stick with acetaminophen in the case of COVID-19. Probably be more news about this coming out today.
"Health officials point out that anti-inflammatory drugs are known to be a risk for those with infectious illnesses because they tend to diminish the response of the body’s immune system." www.independent.co.uk/life-style/health-and-families/coronavirus-paracetamol-ibuprofen-symptoms-nhs-advice-latest-a9404881.html Apparently some of the serious cases involving younger people are associated with this. Need to control inflammation? Do what my wife's plastic surgeon recommends: eat fresh pineapple. Worked like a charm for her eyelid fix.
"Trudeau Closes Canada’s Border to Non-Citizens or Permanent Residents Over Coronavirus
But not to the US" Practicalities. Our country is far too integrated into our common North American economy. Long may it be so! El Turdeau didn't bother to close the Roxham Road crossing in Quebec. That's where a steady stream of illegals has been flowing through for several years now. Once in Canada, they get better health care benefits than ordinary Canadians.
I don't believe anything coming out of China right now. They need to restart their economy and their factories. That's all they care about. They are willing to sacrifice the elderly and infirm as they have too many people in their country anyway. Now that they understand that most don't show symptoms, they will let it spread and spread until they can't hide it anymore, and then when it becomes obvious it has returned, they will blame the U.S., Japan, South Korea, anyone this dislike, for infecting them. BANK ON IT.
China's biggest demographic problem — a direct legacy of the One Child Policy — is that it has too many older people compared to the young, working age ones. This is a disaster in a society where the young are supposed to support the old, which is both a traditional cultural imperative and a practical necessity for any welfare state.
Europe has the same low-birth-rate problem producing an inverted family demographic structure and the same welfare promises that there aren't enough working young to support. From a coldly calculating viewpoint — something Leftists love taking — getting rid of elders is a Great Policy Idea. We need to restart our factories. The hell with China.
Paullie "The Beard" Krugman: Doesn't know what he doesn't know, and doesn't care. "I pity da foool!"

Carriers worldwide slash schedules from 50 to 100 percent as bankruptcies loom QUOTE: This week, the respected CAPA Centre for Aviation, a global group of researchers and analysts, made the following scary prediction: “By the end of May, most world airlines will be bankrupt.” Things are so bad that Airlines for America (A4A), the U.S. airline trade organization, this week asked the federal government for up to $50 billion in financial assistance in the form of immediate grants and loan guarantees, as well as relief from federal excise taxes for all of 2020 and 2021. https://www.chron.com/travel/article/Airlines-crisis-mode-bailout-15135425.php?utm_campaign=socialflow&utm_medium=referral&utm_source=sftwitter Boeing is also asking for a "short term bailout." https://finance.yahoo.com/news/boeing-seeks-u-aid-help-215325290.html The American taxpayers shouldn’t be bailing out Airlines. What are we going to do, bail out every large corporation in the country Like government, they’ve become a necessary evil. Only partially kidding about the evil part.
I know, I know... I agree with you in principle. But the simple fact is these banks and companies that we bail out are essential. If they go bankrupt 330 million Americans will suffer. It is likely that in 1929 fast action of the kind we see today and in 2009 would have prevented the great depression. For most people what the government is doing 'appears' to be saving bankers and big and little business. But it is really so much more than that; they are saving the economy and saving millions of people from having to suffer through the big hurt of a great depression.
It isn't a perfect or "free" fix. Some of the problems are deferred, some will still impact us, but mostly the big hit of an economic collapse is avoided and that is worth the costs. You may not believe all this but if the next time we get another FDR in office and incur a economic collapse you will be able to see for yourself what inaction and inappropriate action does to the country. Read Jim Grant's "The Forgotten Depression: 1921 — The Crash That Cured Itself" Excellent book about the government doing nothing and while painful the economy fixed itself and went into the Roaring '20's, only to have the government help things into the Great Depression.
Bailing out the airlines: Ha. Basic human rights and Legroom first, you bandits, otherwise I'll invite you to handle your own bailout - sans parachutes.
Rediscovering Western Civilization I'm a fan of Rodney Stark's books.
COVID vs Common Cold vs Flu This doesn't seem all that significant. I read earlier that it was "like getting hit with a truck." Not sure what to think. Wuhan, China — Gets Back To Work In Preview Of What’s To Come In U.S. Road traffic (including trucking) is about 60% of activity before shut down. But subway passengers still only at 30%. Coal use is up to about 70-75% of pre-shutdown levels, from a low of 50%. The airlines should be suing China. We all should be suing China for their ways that allowed this to happen. Commie bastards should be punished for not joining the civilized world.

May be that this treatment has helped to "flatten the curve" in China and S. Korea. https://tinyurl.com/sb8st4z Check the stats at WorldoMeter.info Re: The Boeing request for financial assistance.
The United States government should not give Boeing one thin dime. Boeing is unionized, with very high wages, and gold-plated benefits for its employees. Almost all of this is at taxpayer expense. There is a rule: Unionized organizations, be they factories or government offices, don't get financial aid. They cost too much already. If Boeing wants to economize to stay in business, then it must reduce the workforce. I recommend that Boeing lay-off forty percent of their workers. DR. FAUCI: Coronavirus Vaccine Trial In U.S. Has Begun
Amazingly quick Not really...I believe they've been working on it since last year, after the Chinese blew their initial attempt to deploy the disease in the US as a bio-weapon! Had several clients who were hit hard last March with an respiratory infection that nobody's doctors (inc. those from an internationally-renowned respiratory hospital) could identify! Could likely have been weaponized COVID. When the Chinese realized their shortcomings, they called on that Harvard scientist, who help them set up their Wuhan bio-weapons lab, to try and fix the formula. But, said professor was just recently arrested by the FBI for failing to report all the money (millions of $$$) he got from China! Then, there's the Chinese grad student who was arrested in Canada for trying to smuggle vials of an undisclosed bio-substance out of Canada, to China! Hmmmm...Truth is stranger than fiction!!! You really don't think those 30,000 US troops deployed to Europe in the middle of this hyped-up mess, were sent over to the "epicenter" of the disease, un-protected, DO YOU??? re Symptoms: COVID vs Common Cold vs Flu
Doesn't look like a dime's worth of difference. Good explanation from Shelby, Ohio:
WHAT YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, PLEASE READ: Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand... It has to do with RNA sequencing.... I.e. genetics. Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot. Novel viruses = new, may come from animals= zoonotic.... the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1-Swine Flu) (birds in the case of the H1N1-Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans... then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off. Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human... once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be.. H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too. Fast forward. Now, here comes this Coronavirus... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery” This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it. And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs.. That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery. And it’s a lung eater...And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine. We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu. And let me end by saying....right now it’s hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next. Be smart folks... |
