We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.
Considering the need to transport large numbers of US troops to Europe in the event of a war with Russia, would it make sense for the US DoD to buy up surplus 380’s?

They would have to downsize to use the 380. The 50-year old C% is larger and has more cargo capacity as well as the ability to carry vehicles as large as tanks.
I learned this about Airbus in 2010(May be dated)
1. Airbus farms out parts production to countries like China with minimal oversight
2. Airbus doesn’t offer lifetime guarenytees in their planes. You can get limited warranty of different lengths depending on how much you want to afford.
The first A380 to go to scrap happened last year. Somebody besides Airbus took a bath on that one.
A couple of years back, I saw a documentary on the A380. I was impressed until the point at which the senior Airbus official talked about why they undertook the project to begin with. Beat Boeing is a strategy that might have been valid in the '60s and '70s, but these days it seem more reflective of the failure of the whole European Project.
