Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Hudson Highlands

What a perfect day.

I am jealous as here in the southern interior of BC there are fires in the area and the air is very hot and smokey.

The Spokane news has a red flag warning up right now and there are some incredible wildfire pictures at krem.com.

In this area these are big forest fires, not brush fires like Southern Cal suffers.

The amount of fuel in the NW forests is huge.

One interesting thing I was told was that the roots of the trees can also burn and may burn underground right through the winter.

It is dangerous for fire fighters as the ground under a tree can collapse.

No fires here. Too much rain, but fire isn't a bad thing anyway. It is natural.

I am thinking that you did not look at the awesome wildfire pictures on krem.com.

For the folks that live in the area these fires and smoke are not a good thing.

It is very true though that the policy has been to prevent these forest fires for many many years now and the National Forest areas have lots and lots of dry fuel built up, like knee deep pine needles, because of that policy and there are no easy answers to the wildfire threat.


Anyways, in regards to NY state road trips, I have been on the following site for way too long this AM and I have to get to work.

It is a great site to plan a fall NY road trip off of and I hope to be dining in the beautiful NY Fingerlakes area again one day soon.

I hope all that rain will make for a bountiful harvest in NY too.
