If progressives were truly to “interrogate the current structures of power,” they would only find themselves. Progressives have controlled Seattle for a generation, yet they pretend to be outsiders fighting forces of “institutional oppression” and “structural racism.” City government employs more than 10,000 workers, all subject to rigorous diversity training and politically correct thinking. Despite the occasional public-relations fiasco, the progressive grip on Seattle’s political culture shows no sign of loosening.
You are looking only on facts, not the Narratives Which Must Be True. Things still aren't right, so there must still be shadowy, deeply embedded forces of racism, sexism, homophobia, capitalist oppression, and people who don't worship late-night comedians who are preventing improvement.

As you read this article, be sure to remember that these are the SAME INDIVIDUALS, and their circle of leadership power-- sharing friends that lead the various departments at all levels of management in Boeing. This process of promoting the "victim class" (women, ethnic minorities, etc.) into leadership positions for which they are not the best qualified is I believe an important component of the failure of the Boeing 737 Max. This process of putting poorly prepared individuals into decision making/leadership roles for which they are not prepared most probably also had a role to play in the failure of the Boeing 737 MAX. You need only to read the full Boeing 737 Max story to understand how this same community imbedded themselves into Boeing via the demand for equity--not merit. Funny the relationship between the Boeing Engineers Union and the Chicago Teamsters. The same mentality. The same group of people,--agents of change, etc. The same failed understanding of . . . The next time you hear someone (David Brooks) attacking Meritocracy you point to Seattle. Ask if they would like to have lost all of their family members in an airplane crash that could have been avoided. This confused ideology and the power to enforce dominates all levels of this city.

I have hired plenty of young engineers and mentored (and later hired) intern engineering graduates. There is no shortage of bright young people who are talented, motivated, disciplined, creative, and very good team players - from every conceivable identity category, with none of that even mentioned. You have to work at finding them, a little. All of them know the math.
The problem of this age really is that a small gaggle of vocal subversive activists have figured out how to leverage the power of communications, and thus their message gets out to the world as a priority - as if it were the norm - with the tacit indulgence of the controlling hand. The key is to object loudly and dispute the message each and every time and reject the premise. It also helps if they don't get hired, incidentally. I have found the SJW types are the laziest most good-for-nothing workers anywhere - which explains a lot about why they choose the SJW route.
