Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

Actually, the article regarding the Psychiatrist petition misses a second ethical charge: Statement Outside Professional Competency. They not only make a diagnosis of a patient they have not examined, a spurious medical conclusion, but they state that this diagnosis renders Trump unfit for office. That is a legal, not medical conclusion and outside the scope of their medical and professional competency, especially as the
Constitution specifies who is authorized to make such a determination. About the 40 YO lady who does not want to marry the father of her child: I don't think she should or anyone should who does not feel that they are in love with the other person. Simple as that regardless of pregnancy or explaining to family. I certainly think it will be better for the man in this case as well as better for the woman.
She's bought the idea that you've supposed to be in 'love, love, love' with the person you marry.
It's not surprising - considering how our entertainment's focused on butterflies and rainbows when it comes to romance for women of every age, from 3-5 years on up. Aren't you supposed to be in love with the person you marry??? I don't understand your point? Why marry if you are not in love? The only reason I could think of is that you are masochist.
Also don't you think it is a terrible idea that anyone would insist you marry someone regardless of their reasons? There are cultures where this happens. I hope we don't want to become one of them. Oh, great. Another poor bastard, handicapped at birth by parents who hate him. One can only hope for a 21st Century Great Awakening, where these two breeders are punished for A Crime Against Humanity.
It's becoming increasingly obvious that there is no Climate Emergency, and that the Climate Clamor can really only be properly understood as a sociopolitical experiment in power accumulation. For anyone with any background in the earth sciences, it's common knowledge that Earth still radiates more heat to space than it receives, because of the nuclear / thermal decay of its core - which is still nearly 10,000 °F, for crying out loud. Sun activity, continental drift (which determines ocean currents), and thermal decay control the climate, probably in that order of priority. We are simply riding along on fairly subtle planetary variations and vagaries and calling them crises.
There is no solution to Africa's problem(s). The more we interfere the worse it gets. We should stop "helping" them and the world should stop allowing them to immigrate.
I honestly cannot imagine a continent with more resources and potential than Africa. You can literally grow crops all four seasons. It could be the world's cornucopia but by choice it is the worlds armpit. Let them figure it out. A quote from the link you're sharing "The Sensible Solution To Africa’s Overpopulation Problem"
"I can’t speak for Europe, but clearly we can’t absorb an additional four billion Africans into the United States. After all, forty million already seems like a bit of a handful. Why multiply it by a factor of 100? Sure, we could double the amount of teams in both the NBA and NFL. We could always use a few more entertainers. But sooner or later, we won’t have any jobs for them, and, as hateful as it makes me sound, four billion Africans might start to feel like a wee bit of a burden on our infrastructure." Not sure I've clicked onto a more overtly racist screed from Maggie's in all the years I've been a follower. It has nothing to do with race, but is simply a logistics case. Your use of the term 'racist' is so simplistic that I can only think that you use it to imagine yourself somehow morally superior.
I don't think it requires moral superiority to recognize how beyond the pale the quote I posted is in terms of its racist overtones. But if so, then I'm guilty as charged.
I understand that. I am still shocked that link to such a racist screed was posted by you BD (based on the years that I've been a reader). That's not the type of sentiment I've associated with Maggies whether it from something written by a contributor or shared.
Bloomberg's own news service has covered the Chinese government's abuses. Link.
An ad referring to Any of Bloomberg News's coverage of China's heavy handedness, followed by some quotes from Bloomberg's praise of China will be deliciously easy for any of his opponents. It's even easier for Trump. He could just tweet something like this: QUOTE: Bloomberg news reports on China's horrible human rights, but Mayor Mike likes China's ruthless communism. No more communist mayors running for president please. Keep America Great. or QUOTE: Last week I signed the Hong Kong Human Rights Act, a bipartisan bill addressing China's poor treatment of it's people. So poor. Today Mike Bloomberg thinks Chinese communism is just right. Not on my watch. These things practically write themselves. Bill Nye: "Venice is flooding. I told you climate change is real."
Actual scientists: "Venice has been sinking and tilting for decades due to subsidence and settling." Interesting article on gin, but precious little history. As with beer, anything goes now with gin, more's the pity. I like Beefeaters for gin and tonic and Plymouth for a martini. Hendrick's IS a really good gin too, in spite of the hype. A history of the martini would be fun, tracing it back before the Martinez", etc...Cheers!
