Thanks for the Glenn Renyolds bit. Was not familiar with him, although his name has been in the general buzz. Or could it be that I did not grow the long term memory brain parts, eek! Getting the book he recommends by Nicolas Carr "The Shallows" after reading only 2 reviews. Sounds like possibly some very cool brain growth, plasticity and decay stuff vs internet WWW stimuli. Countering the internet's impact on the brain sounds to me just as important as weight lifting and squats. Heh.

It made me already look at your links for today and wonder if the bizarro land crazy think and lack of logic and lack of even the simplest cause and effect understanding (CA wild fires anyone?) is a result of WWW impact on the brain. Sorry Scott Adams cause and effect (root cause) is not loser think. Scientists have used it (until recently) to understand and control phenomena in predictable ways to bring humanity all sorts of goodies.

Do liberals spend significantly more time on social media and have fewer face to face social interactions and less overall unplugged time than classic liberals, libertarians and conservatives? Inquiring minds want to know while they still can.

PS I don't count Maggies as brain corroding. Just keep up the long pod casts, music and meat and potatoes links along with the crazy stuff.

Bloomberg enters the race... how does that change the chances for Democrats?! He’s just as big a lefty loon as any of those other ones, with a lot more money. A guy like that seems extremely unlikely to get Midwesterners or independents in battleground states.

It changes the chances because he has some accomplishments outside the public sector and he is more likeable. The morning after the 2016 election, I had a moment of optimism awed at the thought that were still 60million plus real Americans. Reality, though, is that an unknown block of those votes were not for Trump but were anti Hillary or no shows; I think more than usual. On the other hand, lots of voters who reluctantly voted for Trump are in his column now. I don't know, but my guess is that Bloomberg won't pick up the mantel on behalf of the working middle and Main Street, Trump will continue to have that vote locked up. I haven't seen anyone committed to challenging Trump for that demographic.
Do you ever wonder, why did Trump step up to represent Middle America? I would like to know the answer to this, given what it has cost him.

It seems clear to me that Trump stood up for Middle America because he is a patriot to his core, and a great leader who fights to the death for what he believes. We need more like him.

I think the first time I ever heard of Trump was when he was said to have become exasperated looking out of his highrise window watching the City of New York blunder and slog its way through a seemingly endless process of building something--a skating rink?--in Central Park. He clearly had an overwhelming sense that it doesn't have to be like this. He just wants more results and less nonsense. He doesn't automatically accept sacred cows as obstacles. I guess if they're your sacred cows, that's pretty annoying; luckily for me they're less important than his results.

It's funny that people think it's adorable when they read "Molly Ivins can't say that, can she?" but they can't stand it when Trump crosses a rhetorical line.

I think Ron had some valid points, but they were lost in his obvious disdain for the Marine Corp. He must have had his ass kicked by a marine. A little interservice rivalry is good for the overall health of the Department of Defense.

It's the World's Biggest Blind Spot, this relentless, shrieking hyperbole that we've been subjected to these past 4 years. The talking heads and headlines have been spouting this nonsense with a straight face, unaware that more contemplative people might be willing to give the benefit of the doubt to this political unknown, as they did for Obama. And once a person takes a contemplative approach, it's quickly apparently that the hyperbole is demonstrably worse than any rhetoric Trump might be employing. Far worse. Much more self-defeating, and far easier, ultimately, to disregard as noise. Because after all, what kind of credibility can a Moral Standard Bearer claim when they've got such a huge unrecognized blind spot and are acting crazy? Trump's achievements stand on their own, apart. Trump's hucksterism seems to be just for getting people into the tent.

You can scream all you want about how Trump's horribly crude, rude, unpresidential and the like...

But - his achievements are on record. You might not LIKE the man, but he's done a hell of a lot of good for this country. He's exposed a LOT of rot within our 'political elite', inside and outside DC.

The rot may characterize itself as virtue, but it still stinks.

I can't imagine what an Episcopalian service must be like since the Bible seems to be secondary (at best) to the SJW covenant.

I keep wondering when California, and others, are going to try and dump their pension obligations on the entirety of America. They'll try eventually...

Bloomberg: I think he would be fairly strong, but he's rabid anti-2A, and I don't know how the left's base is going to react to another old, white guy as their front-runner.

What's the service like? Liturgical and pre-defined, except for the homily. I don't know how much liberty the priests have to vary the order of service.
Given that the meaning is eviscerated, keeping the forms seems silly, but maybe somebody in the pews will actually listen to the prescribed gospel readings and start thinking.

Not all Episcopal congregations are nuts. Mine is quite apolitical, liturgical, Bible-based, and orthodox. The Western Diocese of Texas is not the East Coast, particularly in small towns.

When we leave the service and gather in the Parish Hall for coffee, the conversation makes it obvious that there's a large (though so far civil) political divide. That sets us a bit apart from the bright-town as a whole, because the Parish Hall is closer to an even split than the town in general. We tend not to quarrel about it. The pastor keeps his political views, whatever they are, to himself. So does the bishop, for that matter, when he visits.

Don't think Bloomberg would have much appeal outside of the NE part of the country. Even Giuliani only has appeal in the NE. Part of that is due to the idea that they have supported too many attacks on the Constitution, especially the 1st and 2nd ammendments, to garner much support across the entire country.

The simple answer is that who ever the Democrat candidate is that he will win the blue states by a large margin and get all or almost all of the Democrat votes. It wouldn't matter if it was the Devil herself, although I don't think Hillary will run.

I liked me some four day weeks. Ten hours a day kind'a sucks, but the three days off was really nice. I got used to it over about five years, and had settled in quite nicely.

Then they moved me back to five Eight hour days this September. I miss my four 10's and having Fridays off, but I'm fixing them. I'm retiring the first of the year. The change may have moved my timetable up six months or a year, but so it goes.

There will be no more Monday or Friday.

Every week will consist of six Saturdays and a Sunday.

So it goes....

There's a job jar, but it's less likely to involve having to be someplace in particular at 9am every day. You can say "no" whenever something doesn't seem worth it, without panicking over the bills.
