Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

"Something wonderful," indeed: The Weight (on its 50th)


Robbie Robertson and some drummer who should have made it in a band, plus people from all over the world. How was this thing produced?  Double h/t to Am Digest.  I was a youth when Big Pink came out, remember when I first listened to it on vinyl. I do remember the girl I was with, hope she remembers me.


Not The Band's best tune.  Too many of their bests to list.  They were not rock, just American music. Nazareth, Pennsylvania.


Robbie, in my opinion, has perfect taste with lead guitar. No showboating, just the right touches.

How was this produced? Apparently very slowly. It took two years. The musicians never had any contact with one another.

Grew up not too many miles from Big Pink in upstate NY. It was my younger brother who turned me on to the album. And then I just had to see the house.

Where have you been? Playing for Change has been making these videos for at least 10 years. According to YT there are 278 video which I guess took 556 years to produce.

"Virtual music" has been a thing on youtube for a while now, with most of the offerings being choral. Search "virtual choir" on youtube for lots of examples. Eric Whitacre is one of my favorites.

This is different. And better. What a great production! Brought tears to these old eyes.
