"I may be a bully, a dick, a jerk, obnoxious, and immature, but if I am, I am a bully for America, a jerk for America, immature for America; a dick for you, a bully for you, etc. You don't have to like me personally. If you like the results, I'm good with that."

I think that's about right. Patriotism is his primary value, and he initially values others according to that. Only as relationships progress does he bring in other elements.

Trump didn't buy into the modern politician therapist-in-chief mode. Trump is a president for adult, for free people. We see how many have or have had some maturing to do. Perhaps surprising how many of them are in academia, head corporations. The Hollywood toddlers aren't a surprise, neither are the toddler recent college grads.

But down amongst the Deplorables, they've had to adult up early in life. A big part of that growing up is learning how to work with people who are competent in the work even as they are hard to take.

I don't subscribe to notion that "the ends justify the means." I do think the President is no more of a jerk than his opponents, and his political principles often line up with mine, while the Democrats' almost never do. As far as I can tell, the personal objections are primarily a matter of style between, say, the party operatives that engineered the Kavanaugh debacle and Trump's inner circle.

I'm not interested in replacing Trump with jerks and bullies who affect a silkier style. Who is it that we're supposed to believe is kinder, nobler, more honest--Clinton? Sanders? Warren? Pelosi? Reid? The editorial staff of the NYT or the WP?

Precisely. Trump acts as the Democrats have throughout my lifetime, and they are outraged. I disapprove of it in them, and in him. For personal character, it's a wash, and I move on to other things. Trump is considerably ahead in the other things.

bully, a dick, a jerk, obnoxious Who used the DOJ with standards for 'my people; but not others. Who used the IRS to deny exemptions for political purposes. Who sold weapons to violent cartels? Who is outraged over silly words but not actual misdeeds?
