Maggie's Farm

We are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for.

Hollywood

Spent the day yesterday with the sons grueling 88 degree hot uphill 3-miles to Hollywood sign.


view at 1000+ feet elevation over L.A.


Then a stroll down Hollywood Blvd to Graumanns Theater to stump the sons on mini-bios of the real stars of bygone era in Hollywood. This star they recognized (look closely). :-)



Then on to Santa Monica beach, good pastrami sandwiches, and returned older son to UCLA.


Nice day.

Frommans. Good, but not fantastic, the absolute best, like Nate and Al's in Beverley Hills.

Just had to ask as the wife is a southern California girl, and her youngest son lives in Santa Monica.

She said she didn't get over to the west side much but concurs that Nate & Al's is fabulous. She said that for a long time they resisted credit cards and it was cash only.

Having said that, I have had the pastrami at Brent's in West Lake Village. The wife says that as good as Nate & Al's is, Brent's is better in her opinion.

One of the things that frustrates my wife about living in the middle of nowhere is the lack of really good places to eat.

About 50% humidity, and soaked with sweat. SE US humidity is tough but in shape and so didn't restrict me when I lived in GA and FL. -- I did not see anyone over mid-40s on this hike. I'm 71, and took a few 30-second deep breath rest stops (longer and muscles bind up).

u picked the hottest weeks of the year (mid-Aug to mid-Sept.)

Wassamatter w u? LOL (I live in the OC. I know. )

Days like this u go straight to beach. Hiking is for the other 11 months =) (less smoggy views, too.)
