Maggie's FarmWe are a commune of inquiring, skeptical, politically centrist, capitalist, anglophile, traditionalist New England Yankee humans, humanoids, and animals with many interests beyond and above politics. Each of us has had a high-school education (or GED), but all had ADD so didn't pay attention very well, especially the dogs. Each one of us does "try my best to be just like I am," and none of us enjoys working for others, including for Maggie, from whom we receive neither a nickel nor a dime. Freedom from nags, cranks, government, do-gooders, control-freaks and idiots is all that we ask for. |

The fact he got so upset about being called a Fredo is pretty good evidence of the fact that his is a Fredo.
Yeah, acting hurt and indignant just like Fredo (with a little feigned Sonny thrown in for comic relief) when called Fredo cemented Cuomo's Fredo status, like forever.
P.S. Awesome bag of 'Fredos', BTW! My high school chemistry teacher's surname was Fredo. I'm tempted to wornder what he'd think of this, but as he was not a young man when I studied under him, he's likely passed by now. Pity that, because he was quite a wag.
Fake disabilities? How can you tell?
Every semester I get a half-dozen or so students with documented learning disabilities who require special accommodations for testing. Overall, it doesn't seem to give them much of an advantage. An extra hour for an exam doesn't widen the window enough for God to suddenly strike these kids Smart. But the squares on the checklist got filled, we went through the drill, and nobody can say we didn't give it a shot. The issue is that at least as far as the SATs are concerned, there is a strong correlation between the number of accommodation for test anxiety and the per capita income of the area surrounding the test site. IN other words, the more money your parents have, the more likely you're going to be given extra time to complete the test.
There's a major suspicion that this is related to the use of third-party prep services. This is the norm. If you create a program or policy to help the 1% or so that because of disabilities or dumb luck need a little help there will be 20% of the public who will take advantage of that program. Look at welfare. Look at the people on welfare. Some 50 million plus people in America are on some form of welfare and for most of them if they were to take a job they would lose the free stuff so they intentionally don't take a job. These programs are enormous wastes of money and destroy people's lives.
In the case of people who need more time to test it makes no sense. The test is designed to measure ability and the time factor is an important part of that measure. Just the act of giving them more time is an acknowledgement that they do not even belong in that situation. It would actually make more sense to just award them a satisfactory test score rather than play this charade. Imagine the harm to a potential employer because of this program. I would think that the employer would have a good civil case against the college when the employee cannot perform and the college and employee conspired to make it appear that they could do the job. "‘Affordable, Gender Affirming’ Health Care for Transgender People"
What's a gender and how do you trans it and affirm it? "Affordable" means free to the protected group/class.
"Gender affirming" means telling them that they are normal and anyone who disagrees is evil. "Health care" actually means anything that medical science needs to do (medicine, operations, etc.) to help them make believe that they are the gender they choose. Orthoexia;
Gluten and starch are organic, natural things. Arsenic is natural. So is cyanide. Since we are in gardening/ canning season, I've had several conversations with people who wanted clean food...attempted to grow it without "chemicals " and got tired of feeding the bugs and decided it was easier to go to the farmers market to buy produce. Also some who didn't want to wash the dirt off the veggies or peel skins off because it's natural and better for you before canning or preserving. Yea botulism is natural too. 'Like ... a horror movie': Camper saves family of 4 from savage wolf attack
https://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Like-a-horror-movie-Camper-saves-family-of-14303149.php This is why our ancestors made an effort to wipe them out. QUOTE: "A person in wolf country has a greater chance of being killed by a dog, lightning, a bee sting or a car collision with a deer than being injured by a wolf," the center wrote. Imagine a bit of reporting like that in an article about a mass shooting event. Wold good. Gun bad. Very unusual for a wolf to do this. A bear would do it and they do almost every year. I don't live in Canada but I do live in one of the largest pine forests in the U.S. and I camp in it and hike in it. Thanks the to 2nd amendment I would not be reduced to kicking the wolf in the hip to keep it from carrying away my child. Sadly for Canada their government disarmed their citizens some years back AND criminalized their ability to defend themselves.
Wolf was severely underweight, teeth worn down - I'm thinking it was really old and saw a chance for one last good meal...

Trump is the divisive one?
After eight years of Bush (a D.C insider not a conservative) being called a nazi and worse (not to mention Palin, Mitt, McCain and Kavanaugh et al.) I'm overjoyed to see someone fight back. Is he decisive ? No. The left started this and set the rules. So lets play ball, hardball that is. So Trump is the divisive one when he brings up Democrat policies? Trump's not FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAIIIIIIIIRR.

Where could it happen next? ANYWHERE there is a campus. Re: Trump Admin Reinstitutes Clinton Immigration Law, Open Borders Advocates Melt Down
To be fair, the open borders advocates (mostly Democrats) throw a fit when Trump suggests doing anything to stop the flow of illegal immigrants into this country and Trump has regularly defended himself against charges of racism and anti-immigrant bias by claiming that he's only going after the illegal immigrants, that he's perfectly fine with legal immigrants. And now here he is going after the legal immigrants, too. Of course, requiring would-be immigrants to be able to show that they can support themselves may be a perfectly good policy, but this does not change the fact that Trump has moved the goalposts and who knows when he may decide to move them again? Not that there aren't certain people who won't argue that whatever Trump does - even when it something he just said last week he wouldn't do - isn't perfectly fine and wonderful and glorious. See for example, the number of Republicans that have suddenly changed their tune on "reasonable, common-sense gun laws". re Take a Breath; America Is Still a Decent Country Filled With Decent People
As Wretchard tweeted the other day: QUOTE: The only thing holding up the world at this point is the thoughtless routine and naive virtue of the working stiff. All the things the world weary revile: customary honesty, religion, family, sustain our life. As for our "world leaders" they are twisted and mad. https://twitter.com/wretchardthecat/status/1161048903354970112 |
